What’s With The Bridge Of San Luis Rey Movie?
You'd never believe it - a movie with Robert De Niro and Kathy Bates ended up with just a 4% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Ouch! That's really bad, even if they are movie stars. Talk about a major critical failure.
Wait, What Movie Are We Talking About?
We are talking about this 2004 movie - The Bridge of San Luis Rey - which is based on that Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Thornton Wilder. A pretty dramatic tale that tries to figure out the mystery behind a bridge collapse and the people who fell.
- That's right, these awesome actors - even Harvey Keitel is in it. It’s one of those movies that you see the names of actors who have been nominated for tons of awards and you think - how can this movie be bad?! But, in reality, critics thought the acting, story, and the entire direction didn’t come together. It just fell flat.
Is it Really That Bad?
We gotta go back to those critics - they just had nothing nice to say about The Bridge of San Luis Rey. They ripped it apart! They were basically like, "This film is dull as dishwater." "The Bridge of San Luis Rey is about a friar trying to understand why those people died. It's filled with intense stuff, but the story just isn’t great and everyone was unimpressed.” You could say that it didn’t even do well with audiences.
- In all honesty, those critical reviews made it clear it was a flop. It's kind of a shocker, too - that's why this film is remembered. But hey, you should probably still give it a watch for movie disappointment reasons. You gotta know about those bad movies out there, too!
- Even with such a big cast - we're talking about some of the biggest names in movies! And this kind of movie rating is unusual - it just goes to show that even the biggest names in movies don't automatically guarantee a hit!
How can something with De Niro and Bates be a Bad Movie?
I'd probably say - don’t waste your time! It's not so easy to make a movie out of a book, especially one that is as deep as this Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. It has a whole lot of psychological complexity. Maybe they just got the adaptation completely wrong.
Even with amazing actors, if they don’t get a story right - you end up with a real disappointment. It’s a shame because this had some really exciting actors and actresses. Those Movies with great casts can sometimes go completely awry, so remember this!
