Is Avatar: The Way of Water Just a Repeat of the First Avatar Movie?
You know, the sequel was pretty awesome, and most fans agree! But did James Cameron basically make the same movie again? Well, it does have those major similarities that could be seen as a Remake.
Are They Both Mostly the Same?
- The first Avatar movie and its sequel do share a lot. There’s the story, characters, and the themes but that’s pretty normal for a sequel, right? And Avatar: The Way of Water made so much money that it was worth the wait, right?
- It’s funny - because people think Avatar 2 just rehashed everything. And, there are parts that make them think that way, too. So there might be some repetition.
- A ton of fans think it was just the same old stuff, but maybe they had to do this because of the bigger themes that run through the Avatar franchise.
Wait - Did They Just Bring Back Miles Quaritch?
- It was like an evil echo of the first Avatar! In both movies - the humans were trying to get something important from Pandora, to get some really expensive material. And this guy - Quaritch - he just hates Jake! In Avatar: The Way of Water they even put Quaritch into a Na'vi avatar body. Now it’s not exactly the same but he does share that same hatred for Jake!
- So maybe that was their plan - they wanted to emphasize how important Quaritch was to the Avatar franchise and to how the human characters, as antagonists, acted and moved.
How Do They Compare?
- It turns out, though, that Quaritch had a super significant story and character development - which wasn't really there in the first movie, so maybe that changes things, but not entirely. The biggest takeaway for the audience is the plot of the sequel has those same points, though the new additions really make you feel something.
- In both movies, we had some big death scenes, which might feel a little repetitious when you watch the films. The characters go through an emotionally tough moment that just makes the whole finale way more powerful.
- We got these epic battle scenes as well, but it’s not totally the same as those Avatar 2 scenes where we get those beautiful visuals from Pandora - now under the sea - with Jake and those cool underwater creatures. It really takes us deeper, too.
- That's why so many people think Avatar: The Way of Water is still a really amazing sequel! You know - just because the story and characters go through some of the same big changes as the first movie.
- They didn't completely rewrite the story and that was great. It really showed the same important points as the original but also added a ton of stuff that wasn't in that first movie!
We’re all wondering if the next Movies in the Avatar franchise, will have more new story points, new villains, and new environments to see!
We’re not so sure, but it’s definitely something that fans have been asking about - and something they might start discussing more now that this sequel, with those crazy James Cameron movies and special effects, came out. Hopefully, the director will listen to fans, so we can experience something new!
