Why disappointed is Denis Villeneuve, the Director of Dune: Part Two? In 2024, His Film Still Top Earner
Director of *Dune: Part Two*, Denis Villeneuve, clarified why he finds it disappointing that his movie still ranks highest among box office receipts for 2024. Since its March 1 theatrical release, the sequel—starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya—has grossed over $711 million worldwide. With *Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire* at $567 million and *Kung Fu Panda 4* at $542 million, no other film released in 2024 has surpassed this mark. Conversely, the summer box office has seen a slow beginning with *The Fall Guy*, *Furiosa*, and other movies failing expectations.
While getting the Academy Icon Award at the 2024 Canadian Screen Awards, Villeneuve confessed he is "disappointed to still be number one... I hope soon that there will be other hits at the Box Office. Eventually, hopefully, this summer box office will be substantially improved." He expanded on this idea with observations on the current state of the film business, especially stressing the need of movie theaters and how they support the success of a movie. See Villeneuve's further remarks below:
Will Any Future 2024 Movies Challenge *Dune: Part Two* at the Box Office?
The great expectation building before the delayed release of *Dune: Part Two* helped *Dune: Part Two* to be a financial success. Including *Inside Out 2*, *Deadpool & Wolverine*, *Joker: Folie à Deux*, *Moana 2*, and *Wicked: Part One*, several much awaited 2024 films now awaiting release are certain to do well at the Box Office. The box office forecasts for Inside Out 2 show a domestic opening weekend between $80 and $85 million, which would be on par with *Dune: Part Two* earnings $82.5 million on its first weekend.
Given Disney's promise to grant *Inside Out 2* an almost 100-day exclusive theatrical window until film is released on Disney+, a comparable successful box office run throughout the summer is feasible for it. Disney's other much awaited summer release, *Deadpool & Wolverine*, might be the MCU's first billion-dollar movie in three years. Though movie doesn't open in theatres until July 26, *Deadpool & Wolverine* has already smashed ticket presale records due to excitement for the team-up featuring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.
The Cinematic Universe of Dunes
The *Dune* franchise is currently rather significant in the film industry. Part Two *Dune: Part Two* is a follow-up to Denis Villeneuve's 2021 film, which tracked Frank Herbert's book events. The movie follows Paul Atreides' search of retribution against those who killed his family. Insightful about the future, Atreides might have to decide between the fate of the universe and his one true love.
Given its amazing camera work and gripping storyline, the film will definitely captivate spectators. The manufacture marks a major turning point in the future of the *Dune* series. The film might inspire numerous more *Dune* universe chapters.
An Outlook toward the Future
The much awaited Broadway musical *Wicked*, starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, should also find a place in the mix. With its wide appeal and release, which is exactly timed to feel like a must-see theatrical event, *Deadpool & Wolverine* has the best chance of dethroning *Dune: Part Two*.

As Director, Jonathan Frakes clarifies variations of several eras of Star Trek.
Jonathan Frakes then went on to discuss how directing for Star Trek on Paramount+ series is considerably different since the present episodes offer filmmakers latitude with dialogue that the Star Trek series originally did not let. While the present shows are more flexible and allow for experimentation, Star Trek demands the actors to be word-perfect and memorize all dialog as scripted. See Frakes's observation on his experience directing the crossover between Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Lower Decks below.
That's an interesting observation. Jack Quaid and Tawny Newsome visited to help with that on "Those Old Scientists". Second City improvisation expert Tawny misled slightly with the lines. Arriving on location with Kat Lyn and Bill Wolkoff as my writers, we all sort of locked eyes and I just whispered to them, saying, "What do you think? Should we let them march straight forward? They subsequently answered, "Sure." And it liberated Anson, Rebecca, and all of a sudden we performed the scenes as written, but then we played with the scenes and that was such a pleasure to have. As you are certainly aware, Next Gen has strict restrictions. Our presentation was quite exact. It was exact on every performance addressing the topic. It was so a rather freeing experience.
The Condition of the Motion Picture Business
Not only about *Dune 2*, but I also think we need movies that are Theatrical Experiences, truly embracing the power of the theater. Of course, I'm referring to several Movies here. One excellent example of a movie that totally made use of theater's power is *Civil War*. I truly wish that would happen more often; I was lucky that *Part 2* reached the public.
The business of movies is always shifting to fit fresh trends. One excellent illustration of what the film industry is evolving is the popularity of *Dune: Part Two*. It might open a new chapter in the film industry stressing creativity, a Cinematic experience, and gripping narratives. The popularity of this movie could indicate that viewers want to see Movies on a huge screen more than otherwise.
