The First "Green Lanterns" woke an enraged old god.
*Green Lantern: War Journal* #9 by Dave Sharpe, Montos, Adriano Lucas, and Phillip Kennedy Johnson Searching for John Stewart, Caolán Shepherd turns pages from the Book of Oa. Unable to locate any information about the Radiant Dead or the Revenge Queen, Shepherd searches for the first known reference of the Darkstars. Shepherd comes onto a narrative of ancient Maltusians searching for a force to bring the universe under control. At last the Maltusians discovered a power in a monument honoring the Old God Olgrun and his daughter, Ajna.
Desecrating the monument might set off Olgrun's fury, the Maltusians were advised. Still, they returned with weaponry and stripped the monument of Genesis—the crystallized blood of Old Gods. The acts of the Maltusians produced a ghostly light growing deep within a monument crypt. But they paid no attention to the light, pleased they had acquired an ability to turn their body into live light. They developed strong weaponry and turned into the Green Lantern-like peacekeepers, Knights of the Dark Star, committed to maintaining cosmic order.
Ancestors of the Green Lantern Corps doomed the DC Universe
Many Green Lantern supporters are aware that the Maltusians have paradoxically been one of the main dangers to the universe even if they wish to preserve it and impose order all around. The Manhunters, soulless androids that held every sector in check (until flawed programming resulted in the death of an entire space sector), were developed before the Guardians ever established the Green Lantern Corps. Not to mention, the Guardians also sought to replace the Green Lanterns with the Third Army, a horrible genetically altered race of obedient soldiers meant to forcibly convert every living thing in the DC Universe.
But in the Knights' quest for order, they roused and enraged one of the most potent forces the DC Universe has ever known. Though among others those errors reflect poorly on the Guardians of the Universe, they pale in comparison to what the ancient Maltusians accomplished thousands of years ago. Warned especially against desecrating Olgrun's tomb, the Maltusians were cautioned they would suffer his wrath. Ignoring the warning, they paid for it with their entire lives and became the first wave of the Radiant Dead. Apart from paying for their crimes, the Knights of the Dark Star might have endangered the entire DC Universe.
Olgrun is who and what threat does he present?
One of the Old Gods, Olgrun was regarded as among the most powerful able to construct magnificent worlds. But he killed his daughter in the course of losing himself to craziness and wrath. Though they couldn't destroy Olgrun, the Old Gods might weaken his power by splitting it into elements concealed scattered throughout the multiverse. Olgrun has lied for millennia, waiting for the ideal vessel to possess and return to life, a wish granted when Green Lantern John Stewart acquired god-level power upon absorption of a Godstorm.
Olgrun's menace originally surfaced in the *Action Comics* (2021) "Warworld Saga"! John wanted to lead a quiet and tranquil life on Earth with his mother; Olgrun dispatched his terrible army, the Radiant Dead, under the Revenants Queen. Stewart was surprised by the Radiant Dead, but novice Green Lantern Caolán Shepherd finally caught him up to speed. Stewart and Shepherd set out to hunt the Revenants Queen down and finish her goal after acquiring John a new Power Ring snatched from a Green Lantern converted by the Radiant Dead.
Is Green Lantern able to correct historical mistakes?
The Knights of the Dark Star did cannot be undone, sadly. Olgrun is nearer than ever to be returning; the dark star of the Fenn is present. Though long gone, the Knights are fortunately still alive in troops like John, the only Green Lantern strong enough to combat an Old God. Whether John can really beat Olgrun is still to be known, but Stewart is the only one with a chance to atone for the misdeeds of the Green Lantern Corps's forebears.
DC Comics currently have *Green Lantern: War Journal* #9 available right now; 2024 is not far off.
Heritage of the Green Lantern Corps
Centered on people who administer intergalactic justice, various characters in the D.C. Comics universe go under the moniker Green Lantern. Green Lanterns may use their will and design original spectral things to fight against their foes. Though some Green Lanterns have helped the Justice League, their main affiliation is with the Green Lantern Corps.
*Green Lantern: War Journal* #9 looks at the ancient beginnings of the Green Lantern Corps. Among readers, the book has been rather popular as the story is fascinating and thrilling. For many viewers, the ability of the plot to boldly explore the darker side of the DC Universe with remarkable success appeals.
