After recent Nickelodeon allegations, Ariana Grande muses over her time shooting Victorious. Starting in 2010 and featuring Victoria Justice as Tori Vega, Victorious chronicles her journey at a Hollywood performing arts school. Following claims made in the Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV docuseries, show producer Dan Schneider and Nickelodeon have both become divisive figures.
Grande talks on the Nickelodeon allegations in a recent episode of the Podcrushed podcast; neither Grande nor the podcast presenters expressly name Schneider or the Quiet on Set documentary. The celebrity muses over her time filming Victorious and stresses her need for more future assistance for young actors.
Grande remarks, "I was fourteen." We both became rather excited when I went to try for Victorious with Liz Gillies. Our casting came as the best news we could have had. More than anything, we were young artists seeking to do with our life; we traveled there and it was fantastic. We feel great fortune to have had the opportunity to play these parts and be a part of something so unique to so many children; we have some wonderful memories. Our relationship to it is one we are currently reassessed.
Grande adds: "My connection with [Child Stardom] is changing right now and has been changing. I'm reevaluating most of the experience. Children's actions depend on the environment, hence it must be made safer. I think therapists should exist. Should someone wish to do this, music, or anything at this degree of exposure, the agreement should include a clause stating that therapy is required twice or thrice a week, or something else. Parents should be free to be where they wish, in my opinion.
" Particularly, I believe that our show—which pushed the envelope with our humor—was what made us seem to be cool. The innuendos were almost like a cool difference. I'm not sure; I believe it all happened really fast. Looking back at several of the clips now, I'm like, "Damn, really?" Oh, s-t... Some articles that were slipped onto our website or elsewhere were not allowed by the network."
Grande says, "I guess I'm upset, yeah."
The claims about Nickelodeon have rocked the entertainment business. Many people who have watched the situation agree with Grande since so many former Nickelodeon stars have spoken criticism against the network. For some time, the behavior of the network has attracted criticism. Whether this results in more general alterations is unknown. Fans of the network's series will find it challenging and unclear how they will view the networks' programming moving ahead.
