Kingsman 3 Release Date: Why Is The Film Taking Such Long Time?
The grand ending to the trilogy, Kingsman 3, is much awaited by Kingsman fans. But why is the film taking so long to premiere?
Director Matthew Vaughn recently offered some analysis on the delay, noting that Taron Egerton, the actor portraying Eggsy, is now rather busy with other projects.
Busy Schedule Delaying Kingsman 3 Taron Egerton
Vaughn verified that the main cause of the delay is Egerton's hectic schedule. Currently working on multiple projects, the actor is collaborating with Jurnee Smollett on the television series "Firebug" and another project with the Blackbird director. Kingsman 3 production won't start this year as previously advised, then.
Originally scheduled for filming in 2019, the third chapter of the franchise was later postponed once more until 2022 then once more to 2025 now. Egerton has filmed other projects in that period, including the Elton John biopic "Rocketman" and the Blackbird series. He has also provided vocals for other projects including "Sing 2" and "The Sandman" podcast. Additionally appearing in the AppleTV+ film "Tetris," Egerton kept himself occupied during the delays.
Although Egerton is clearly a busy man, it's interesting to note Matthew Vaughn has also worked on other initiatives. He has been developing scripts for other Kingsman projects and oversaw "Argyle," a spy movie set in the Kingsman universe. Additionally keeping busy is Vaughn, who produced "Rocketman" and "Tetris," which Egerton starred in.
Kingsman 3: Expectations From The Last Installment
Although no official story elements have been revealed, Vaughn has hinted that Kingsman 3 will see Eggsy searching for his purpose while teaming with Harry for one last trip.
The trilogy-capper will surely be doing once more: previous Kingsman installments have all included a good degree of comedy along with occasionally rather graphic violence. Like Samuel L. Jackson's Valentine and Julianne Moore's Poppy, the new film will most likely also have an over-the-top, Bond-villain-esque antagonist with an elaborate scheme.
Kingsman 3 Potential Dates
Based on Vaughn's comment, Kingsman 3 might hit theaters in 2026 since Kingsman 3 won't start filming until next year. This means, when the movie opens, audiences last saw Eggsy and Harry at least nine years ago; it's uncertain if the same period of time will have passed in-universe.
Brief History of the Kingsman Franchise
Originally, the Kingsman franchise consisted of comic books set in Mark Millar's created universe. Following the world of spies in the United Kingdom, Millar and David Gibbons debuted their first comics through Marvel in 2012. Then the comics were developed for the first film in 2014.
Following the popularity of the first movie, Vaughn carried on the Eggsy and Harry tale in "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" in 2017. Though Vaughn's next movie in the franchise was 2021's "The King's Man," a prequel, a third movie was slated under the working title "Kingsman: The Blue Blood."
Over the course of a century of actual events, the Kingsman series has drastically changed significant events like World War I.
The Kingsman Franchise: Their Future
Apart from Kingsman 3, Vaughn has earlier revealed ideas for a follow-up to "The King's Man," albeit it's not clear how far along this project is. Fans of the Kingsman universe can expect more adventures in the next years since the franchise shows no slowing down.
