The Platform 2 Review: Returning Characters, Plot Twists & Controversial Reception

Returning Faces in The Platform 2

Iván Massagué returns as Goreng, the protagonist of the first film. In The Platform, he went into the pit to get a diploma, but The Platform 2 reveals a more complex backstory. He appears in the ending with a girl from the first film and there's this strange mid-credits scene where Perempuan recognizes him, suggesting a deeper connection than previously shown.

Trimagasi: The Antagonist

Remember Trimagasi? The antagonist played by (actor's name not provided)? Emilio Buale's Baharat is one of those characters who helps move the plot forward! His ideals and desire for unity show up briefly in The Platform 2 but help provide another aspect of these characters' beliefs and perspectives.

The Unnamed Prisoner with Down Syndrome

This was a pretty haunting figure in the first film who seemed to get by on a day to day basis. He reappears in The Platform 2. This adds some impact for this particular person who appears in both sequels and provides an important reminder of the film's themes and focuses on those who have been impacted the most!

Imoguiri's Past

This really adds to the overall context of the film. Imoguiri was a previous member of The Authority who later ended up in the pit. Her short appearance in The Platform 2 as an interviewer solidifies it as a prequel to the original film.

The Platform 2's Success (and Criticism)

Both The Platform and The Platform 2 received mixed reviews. While the first film earned a strong 81% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 73% audience score, the sequel has significantly lower ratings—42% critics and 26% audience.

Despite its lower ratings, The Platform 2 has generated excitement and has provided more context to an already captivating story from Netflix.
