Official Mod Support Confirmed For Release Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 7

Baldur's Gate 3 Verifies the Release of One of Its Most Excite Updates

While it's still a few months away, Larian Studios has at last confirmed that the much awaited Patch 7 for Baldur's Gate 3 will drop will offer a big addition to the game. Many fans wondered whether Tav and their band of adventurers would have access to any more material once the developer said that it had formally stopped working on its vast Dungeons & Dragons RPG. Thanks to official Mod Support, the studio is letting gamers create their own works even if Larian may not be working on any DLC or expansions.

Larian Studios posted to X (previously Twitter) stating Patch 7 is currently scheduled to come in September 2023 but some lucky players will be get to enjoy the upgrade sooner than the rest of the community. Mostly focused on providing Mod Support, the patch will have a closed alpha build beginning today, June 3, then run of closed beta testing in July. Whereas the beta will be open for 1,000 lucky candidates, the alpha is an invitation-only affair and will almost entirely involve active mod authors.

What will Mod Support Look Like in Baldur's Gate 3?

Regarding Baldur's Gate 3, mods aren't really novel. Since the community first went into early access in 2020, it has been actively producing original content for the RPG; but, the addition of official mod support will make making, distributing, and installing mods considerably simpler. Larian Studios has reassured the community that the introduction of mod support will guarantee the long-term compatibility with user-generated content and will simplify the process of adopting those contributions.

Basically, modules created with the official support option should always fit Baldur's Gate 3's current build, therefore subsequent patches and updates—no matter how minor—won't violate the experience. This solely relates to mods created under Larian's sponsorship; thus, be ready for a flood of creations being exported to guarantee their ongoing viability. The developer is leveraging mod.io, a hosting tool with curation and moderating capability.

Although using the Baldur's Gate 3 Mod Manager can be frightening, if users follow the advised actions and guidelines, installation is simple.

The fact that mods will also be playable on consoles, so enabling users on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S to finally access creative material, makes Baldur's Gate 3's Patch 7's biggest feature quite clear. PC could be the first platform to have mod support, but once the dust has settled on that launch it will be migrated to consoles. Mark those calendars; September seems like a fantastic month for RPG aficionados!
