NCIS Showrunner Talks About Prospect for Season 22 Crossovers with New Spinoffs
Co-showrunner of NCIS Steven D. Binder has discussed the possibility of Season 22 crossover with the next spinoffs in production. New spinoffs generated are driving the NCIS franchise's expansion even if NCIS: Hawai'i was recently canceled. Two of these are NCIS: Origins, which revolves on Gibbs's early years, and the episodic NCIS: Tony & Ziva on Paramount+, featuring former cast members of the show.
Speaking with TVLine, Binder discussed the possibilities of NCIS Season 22 incorporating Crossovers with any of its two Spinoffs, Origins or Tony & Ziva. The showrunner noted that although there are no crossover ideas in place right now, it is quite likely that one will develop in the future. He also hinted that Tony actor Michael Weatherly's brief return in season 21 would serve as a sort of setup for his next performance. Binder says the following below:
How might Origins or Tony & Ziva cross-reference NCIS?
Given little is known about what will happen in NCIS season 22, the following series of episodes could feature a crossover with any of the upcoming Spinoffs. Whereas Tony & Ziva will be broadcast at a later, unknown period, Origins is expected to premiere during the 2024–25 TV season. The flagship series's most of full-season orders are somewhat over 20 episodes per season, thus it is quite likely that the show will be on air at the same time as its two new spinoffs are releasing episodes.
Given both characters have ties to the core crew, Tony & Ziva would be the easiest series the original program could crossover with. Nonetheless, a crossover would most likely be either a setup or a follow-up to the events given the Paramount+ offshoot emphasizes on a large storyline. Still, it is the most likely spinoff considering the relationship between its two major characters and the core crew. It will also be happening simultaneously, which increases the likelihood even higher.
NCIS: A Background of the Program
NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service) centers on the sometimes complex and always funny interactions of a team driven to cooperate in stressful circumstances. Special Agent Alden Parker, a former FBI agent with a unique demeanor who calmly and with a keen, sardonic approach solves his crimes, leads the NCIS team. He is joined by NCIS Special Agent Timothy McGee, an MIT graduate with a knack for computers who has progressed to senior field agent; the charismatic, erratic, and resilient NCIS Special Agent Nicholas “Nick” Torres, who has spent most of her career on solo undercover missions; and the sharp, athletic, and strong NCIS Special Agent Jessica Knight, a formidable REACT agent specializing in hostage negotiations and high-risk situations. Along with forensic scientist Kasie Hines, Ducky's old graduate assistant, the naive Jimmy Palmer—who has been elevated from assistant to fully qualified medical examiner—is helping the team run the morgue. Overseeing operations is NCIS Director Leon Vance, a smart, highly skilled agent who might always be relied upon to throw things off. From murder and espionage to terrorism and stolen submarines, these special agents look at any crimes involving Navy or Marine Corps affiliations.
From its start, the show has been a hit with viewers; its appeal has increased with time. Many of the viewers have come to appreciate the NCIS team as well as the exciting narratives and nuanced characters of the show.
"It's a Long- Running Creative Process" – NCIS co-showrunner
Steven D. Binder, NCIS co-showrunner, notes the possibility for season 22 to have a crossover with the new Spinoffs under production. Though NCIS: Hawai'i was just canceled, new spinoffs are driving expansion of the procedural series in fresh directions. Two of these are the episodic NCIS: Tony & Ziva on Paramount+ featuring the former cast members and NCIS: Origins, which centers on Gibbs's younger years.

Tony's Worth
"That's been a continual creative effort," Binder says. We have iterated over numerous versions of items. Stated otherwise, I would like to. Although I'm not speaking for Michael [Weatherly], I would be delighted to do that and know Michael would be delighted to take part in something like that. We hence fully support it.
It's extremely interesting as [NCIS:] Origins takes place in an other era. If you wish anything to transcend from one episode to the next, you would have to get more creative. Still, that might be rather fun as well. I am thus entirely receptive to whatever concept someone has. I'm quite thrilled to view them; they're perfectly welcome to present them to me and we can see what we can come up with. If you are looking for something akin to the way Tony's season 21 comeback starts, then undoubtedly a starting off point that may be utilized. Still, we could be able to do somewhat more than that.
