Zenless Zone Zero, the latest Gacha Game from HoYoverse, introduces a unique weekly boss system that's different from other gacha games. It might seem confusing at first, but don't worry, we'll break it down for you.
While Zenless Zone Zero has weekly boss encounters, the system is actually pretty straightforward and quick, which is a nice change from other Gacha Games. Players can choose the difficulty of the fight and receive more or less materials. Once you hit Inter-knot level 30, the Custom Plan feature opens up, letting you mix enemies for even more material rewards.
Like other gacha games, Zenless Zone Zero has Weekly Bosses that can be fought up to three times for the best upgrade materials. These materials are needed to upgrade character skills to their S-rank version, which is the highest level. These fights reset every Monday and don't cost Stamina, but there's a timer, and how long the fight takes determines your rating. The lower your rating, the fewer rewards you get.
Currently, there are three Notorious Hunt bosses to challenge:
These bosses drop S-rank versions of Ferocious Grip, Living Drive, and Finale Dance Shoes, respectively. Each boss also gives out 400 Inter-knot credits, Investigation Merits, W-Engine Chips, Audio Boost Master Copies, Crystallized Plating Agents, Dennies, and Molded Plating Agents.
The system is similar to other gacha games but with improvements. Since Stamina isn't needed, you can invest resources into other areas. The timer incentivizes you to play efficiently for the best rewards, but it doesn't penalize you harshly if you struggle. Plus, the extra resources are great for gathering materials like Dennies and Experience materials, which are usually more time-consuming to obtain.
Just like Honkai Star Rail, enemies in Zenless Zone Zero have weaknesses and strengths against different damage types. This heavily influences the best teams for each boss.
For the Dead End Butcher, Ether and Ice are the best damage types. This means that Ellen Joe (a limited S-rank character) and the upcoming Zhu Yuan are the top choices. If you don't have those characters, Shock or Fire teams with Anton, Grace, or Soldier 11 can still work, but they might take a bit longer.
The Unknown Corruption Complex is the easiest boss to take down, regardless of your roster. As a robotic boss, it's extremely vulnerable to Shock damage. Anby and Anton, both easily obtainable A-rank characters, are excellent choices to minimize risk. Adding Grace or Rina to the team makes it even easier. The only downside to this boss is that, currently, its drops are only needed for one of Zenless Zone Zero's factions.
The Twin Marionettes are also weak to Ice and Ether, making the same teams as the Butcher effective. However, the Twins' fight doesn't offer the Freeze boost that Butcher's fight does, so it's better to focus on building Anamoly damage. This also means the bosses won't freeze as often, so you'll need to be quick on your feet and dodge attacks. Luckily, characters can revive themselves after a few seconds if they get knocked out, but this might lower your rating. It's good to know that even lower tier characters in Zenless Zone Zero can still be helpful in taking down the Weekly Bosses.
As you progress through Notorious Hunt, you'll need to level up your characters to keep up. The HIA and the material challenges will become your new best friends. The Custom Challenge system makes grinding materials much quicker. For those who want to maximize their investment, it's best to focus on leveling up your main DPS and keeping your other characters at a similar level. The level of your DPS's skills will depend on how they deal damage. For example, Anton is best at leveling up his Basic and EX attacks, while Ellen Joe is best when all her skills are leveled up equally.
Each character's Core Skills need to be leveled up using Higher Dimensional Data from the Expert Challenges. These are minibosses that cost 40 Stamina and reward the material based on their level. Team composition is less important here but still gives a small advantage. What's more important is the level of your team challenging the boss. Fortunately, Core Skills aren't very expensive to level up, with even later stages only needing four to eight of the specific materials.
Zenless Zone Zero's Notorious Hunt bosses strike a good balance between challenge and accessibility. Removing the Stamina cost makes them flow better with the already limited daily grind. While the boss fights might not be mechanically complex, the pacing and power behind them make up for it. It's definitely worth your time to take on Zenless Zone Zero's weekly bosses for the generous rewards.
