The Sith Are In An Arms Race That The Jedi Don't Even Know About: How Darth Plagueis and The Sith Fit into The Acolyte's Narrative
The showrunner of The Acolyte has revealed how Darth Plagueis and the Sith fit into the overall narrative of the new Star Wars show. In the episodes of The Acolyte that have been released so far, there are parallels and teased connections between the powers of the Witches of Brendok and the abilities of Darth Plagueis, Darth Sidious's Sith master.
Showrunner Leslye Headland has confirmed how Plagueis and the Sith fit into the story, and also the secret arms race between the dark side users and the Jedi Order.
The Connection Between Darth Plagueis and The Witches of Brendok
When asked about Darth Plagueis and the similar powers wielded by Brendok's witches, including their ability to influence the Force to create life, Headland confirmed the connection. In the show, the witches create Mae and Osha, twin children, through their power. Palpatine claims that Plagueis was able to achieve this very thing, creating life through manipulating midi-chlorians.
Headland explained the significance of this connection:
- "The Sith are looking for the atomic bomb, they’re looking for 'What’s the card that we can have over the Jedi? What’s the Force power that the Jedi do not have?' As far as the Sith are concerned, they’re in an arms race, and the Jedi don’t even know that arms race is happening, you know. Because the person, the being, that can get the power that Aniseya started playing with will start the Manhattan Project."
Headland's comments further support the notion that the Sith were doing far more in the shadows than the Jedi ever knew. The Sith were constantly plotting and scheming to get their revenge against the Jedi Order, even while the Jedi themselves believed they'd long been extinct at the end of the Old Republic Era. It seems that The Acolyte is building toward the idea that Plagueis might either learn how to wield his greatest power during the High Republic Era, or might even be responsible for teaching Brendok's witches how to artificially create life via midi-chlorians manipulation.
What to Expect From The Acolyte Going Forward
It will be fascinating to see how the Sith might come into play as The Acolyte reaches its first season finale. While future seasons have yet to be confirmed, there's clearly room for more narratives to be told, especially considering that the Sith during this time are in a secret arms race for greater power, despite the Jedi's clear ignorance. One can only hope that any cliffhangers or teases in The Acolyte's upcoming finale won't be left unanswered.
