Movies News Talk
Arranging the Fantastic Beast films according to the dates of franchise release is quite simple. Five years after the last Harry Potter book ended, the prequel series started in 2016. The Fantastic Beasts Movies order is as follows for those hoping for a whole franchise viewing based on release dates:
There isn't much change in the watch Order if viewers wish to see the Movies in chronological sequence instead, however the use of flashbacks throughout the films causes the timeline to get a bit disorienting.
While Harry Potter's coming-of- age narrative was told during the 1990s, the Fantastic Beasts movies took place 50–65 years before, in the 1920s and 1930s. Though successors bring the prequels closer to these events, the initial film focused on Newt Scamander is set in 1927, 65 years before the first Harry Potter. Here's how to see the Fantastic Beast films in sequence for those looking for a Harry Potter timeline watching schedule free from the necessity of a crystal ball.
HBO Max provides all three of the Fantastic Beast movies as well as the eight Harry Potter movies.

Traveling to New York City in his continuous field study on magical animals, British magizoologist Newt Scamander arrives in 1926. Here he is entangled in a conflict involving the Dark Wizard Grindelwald, local wizarding law enforcement, and a No-Maj.
Beginning in 1926 when Newt Scamander arrives in New York, the first in the series With a case full of magical creatures, the young magizoologist brings with him mumble (or no-maj) Jacob Kowalski, Porpentina "Tina," a demoted Auror, and her sister, Queenie, who helps him to wrangle the creatures accidentally released around the city. The film opens with the Magical Congress of the United States, the infamous Gellert Grindelwald, and the New Salem Philanthropic Society—a group of anti-magic people who hold witches are real, and dangerous. Additionally revealed as an Obscurial—a dangerous youngster whose repressed magic has rendered him incredibly strong—is her adopted son, Credence. Watching the first movie of the trilogy is somewhat simple since it uses less flashbacks to past events than the next ones.

Fantastic Beast: The Crimes of Grindelwald, the second Harry Potter prequel movie, explores the schemes of the title villain more closely. Magizoologist Newt Scamander and a teenage Albus Dumbledore stand in to stop the wicked wizard Grindelwald from starting a war between magical and non-magic society.
Set soon after the first movie, The Crimes of Grindelwald picks up with Grindelwald's escape and the original crew gathering in quest of Credence, who has left Paris. While the first movie depicts the magical world of the United States in the 20s, this second movie travels to Europe with much of the action occurring in France (including the debut of the French Ministry of Magic), as well as a few sequences in Hogwarts. As Grindelwald tries to gather his following based on the belief that witches and wizards shouldn't be compelled to hide to protect those without magic, the action also emphasizes further the lore that Harry Potter aficioners are familiar with. But the second Fantastic Beast film has a few flashbacks to the young of several of the main characters. Although the plot of the film actually centers on 1927, the flashbacks mostly occur in the early 1910s, therefore providing a more whole picture of the history between some of the characters.

Grindelwald's menace gets progressively more pronounced in the third and last Fantastic Beast book. Albus Dumbledore gathers other gifted witches and wizards as well as Newt Scamander to combat Grindelwald and his acolytes before their plans to wipe off the non-magic world come to true.
Alongside Dumbledore, Newt and his pals cooperate once more to try and foil Grindelwald's sinister intentions. Starting after a ten-year time jump and taking it into the 30s, the third and last movie in the series opens few years before the Second World War starts. Given the initial idea of five films, which leads up to the events of World War Two, this larger time jump makes logical and lets the third film allow for more character development between movies. The movie also shifts site once again; although much of the action occurs in Germany and Bhutan, some sequences in the UK and China. Along with Dumbledore, Newt and his allies cooperate once more to try and foil Grindelwald's sinister ambitions to ascend to the new Supreme Leader of the International Confederation of Wizards. On the first view-through, nevertheless, the chronology of events in this film may seem quite disjointed. That's so because Grindelwald kills a magical beast and employs her own natural magical power to glimpse the future. In his aim to conquer the Wizarding World and eradicate muggles, he intends to have an edge. This means occasionally he sees events moments before they occur and other times, days before they occur, before the action turns backwards once more. For much of the film, Grindelwald can use his newly acquired skill to keep one step ahead of Newt and his old friend Albus Dumbledore; but, not for all of it.
Rowling noted when the Fantastic Beast series was revealed that it was meant to be five films long, and that this would lead up the historic battle between Dumbledore and Grindelwald, a major event in Wizarding World history. This battle occurs in 1945 in the Harry Potter series, with clear analogues between the Second World War's rise and Grindelwald's ascent.
The first introduces the core characters, the second and third concentrate on Grindelwald's rise, the instability of the magical community, and the debates over its secrecy, and the breaking of a blood covenant between Dumbledore and Grindelwald that would allow the duel to finally happen. The plots of the first three films were obviously building toward this duel. The latter two movies were presumably meant to span more of the narrative, and they would finish with the duel in the fifth film, following which Dumbledore becomes Headmaster of Hogwarts and Grindelwald is sentenced to life in prison. Though there is nothing in progress at Warner Brothers for a Fantastic Beast 4, despite initial ideas, fans won not see this clash on the big screen any time soon. Although the series's cancellation has not been formally announced, it seems to be dead in the water mostly from a low box office attendance. The lowest-earning of all the Wizarding World films, the second plummeted to just over $650 million and the third came in just over $400 million, yet the first picture was rather well-received and earned a respectable $814 million. Warner Bros. would not want to invest more money on this pattern, very simply as the reviews reflect the box office and get progressively worse with every movie. Furthermore, debate about Johnny Depp's casting and Rowling's ongoing anti-trans views has caused the franchise to suffer in trying to attract the kind of committed audience the first Harry Potter movies did.
Fans will next be searching for where they may view the current three films, regardless of whether the franchise makes returns for the last two installments or not. There are a few venues to do just that. Max lets you stream all three of the Fantastic Beasts right now. Max will likely preserve the brand, especially with the Harry Potter show on the horizon, even when many films migrate between streaming sites as licencing changes.
However, if for some reason Warner Bros. removes one of its biggest franchises from Max, there are always on-demand options for the movies with each of the Fantastic Beasts movies available to rent on platforms like Apple TV.
