Wizards of the Coast is offering players a taste of what they could expect from the revised Monster Manual as the next edition of Dungeons & Dragons fast draws near. A must-have tool for developing a strong campaign, the source book is a treasure of information on the several creatures and adversaries a Dungeon Master could employ to harass his party. Though the covers might not reveal too much, it's still interesting to see how the publisher intends to alter such a venerable aspect of the game.
According to IGN, the updated 2024 Monster Manual features The Beholder, a horrific picture of maybe the most renowned dungeon & Dragons monster. With its tentacles rear-backing to assault the adventures, one of which is Baldur's Gate legend Minsc and his hamster Boo, this version of the beast is substantially more menacing and greatly larger than the depiction seen in the 2014 Monster Manual. On the reverse cover, a squad comprising a Mind Flayer, an Owlbear, and what looks to the eye of a dragon among other equally identifiable monsters stares at the reader.
Though they revealed the new cover to fans of Dungeons & Dragons, Wizards of the Coast has not yet offered any information on what players might find in the next Monster Manual. Based on the back cover, IGN says that there are a few unlike foes including the "vampire warlock" and the so-called "blob of annihilation," but their numbers have yet to be deterimed. More specifics will probably be revealed building up to the publication of the book in February 2025.
Regarding what Wizards of the Coast has confirmed, the publisher observed that none of the included monsters in Dungeon & Dragon's most recent iteration had their Challenge Rating (CR) changed. When combined with the revised ruleset, doing this would result in substantial rewrites and most likely cause serious balancing problems. The Monster Manual will also feature more stat blocks for NPC given the number of gamers believed this element was lacking in past editions.
Drawing ever closer, the latest incarnation of Dungeons & Dragons will soon allow enthusiastic players to toss their money at the new books once pre-orders open on June 18. Regarding publishing dates, the Player's Handbook falls on September 17 and the Dungeon Master's Guide on November 12. Bringing up the year is the new Monster Manual scheduled for arrival on February 18, 2025.

Players of D&d Beyond have not taken great liking to the new premium subscription. They claim that the new paid features—more dice rolls and extra tools—will not significantly affect the general game; nevertheless, the increased membership rate seems a little excessive.
