Phasmophobia is Coming to consoles! (But With a Catch!)
Phasmophobia: Get Ready for Console Ghost Hunting (Just in Time for Halloween!)
Get ready for some seriously spooky fun, folks! Phasmophobia, the indie hit ghost-hunting horror game that took the world by storm back in 2020 (selling over 20 million copies and earning a bunch of awards!), is finally coming to consoles! This totally awesome announcement, made during an exclusive press preview by Kinetic Games, is dropping just in time for Halloween on October 29th!
Expect this thrilling solo or co-op experience on PS5, PS VR2, and Xbox Series X/S for $19.99. (Sadly, no Switch version… yet!). This really is great news; finally bringing the terrifying thrills to console players! And even better is this update: There are new features, updates already in place and plenty of more things to come!
Phasmophobia's Console Debut: New Features to Make You Scream (With Delight!)
The console version isn't just a simple port! Get ready, folks, because there are plenty of amazing updates coming to the game. And some extremely fun, new content!
- Crossplay: Play with your friends on Steam and other platforms– bringing greater opportunities for playing with friends!
- Progress Transfer: Bring over your existing PC progress for those console players coming over! That's amazing!
- Multiplayer: Up to four players can team up to investigate haunted locations– across 13 different places to investigate –this opens plenty of new ways of playing.
- Community Goals: This is new; work together to unlock rewards. That initial challenge: take photos of those blood moon totems! This new content will keep the experience even more thrilling and provide long term game play value for audiences!
Those community goals will work kind of like in Helldivers 2. Check progress on the new event board in your truck, for even more ways of achieving unique goals which may require collaborative efforts. These are game changer!
Phasmophobia on Consoles: What's Missing (for Now…)
Okay, some bad news. At launch; no voice recognition. This feature that identifies spoken words, used on PC version? Nope, this won’t work in this current version. Ghosts will hear you talk and make sounds and will likely react but won't exactly understand your words (as it would on the PC version); this makes gameplay different. It’s only limited to pre-programmed spirit box questions for now; This is a disappointment for those coming over.
Kinetic Games is working on it, though! Along with various plans for upcoming updates—including changes to the Sanity system, that spooky Ghost Possession feature (which may or may not be coming…they won’t confirm!), that Prestige System getting adjusted, plus some changes on how ghosts look and act! But they emphasize they plan on retaining that crucial aspect for every single player: they will not introduce the capacity to actually fight those terrifying ghosts!
Conclusion: Get Ready to Ghost Hunt...and Prepare for Updates!
Phasmophobia coming to consoles is fantastic, especially for players who might have issues regarding playing this only on the PC. But knowing what's missing is also extremely important. While voice recognition's absence will definitely feel awkward, it won't prevent that incredibly awesome gameplay; those incredible thrills awaiting players everywhere! Those continued updates promise lots of amazing content! So get ready for one spooky season!
