Star Wars Outlaws Is Maintaining George Lucas's Inspirations When Growing His Universe
With the "wretched hive of scum and villainy" obviously pulled more from the Western movies of the time, Hammoud and Jonkers looked back at the types of media George Lucas has cited as inspiration for Star Wars over the years, with the Mos Eisley Cantina resembling the kinds of saloons characters would often find themselves conducting shady dealings in to create an expansion of Tatooine that feels authentic. Though the crew "were eager to respect what had been established," they were also "super keen on adding their take on it," and Hammoud and Jonkers noted that Lucasfilm Games were quite receptive to these suggestions as they steered the team.
Drawing mostly on the 1960s and 1970s to further increase the planet's authenticity, it was also mentioned that the World and Art teams sought influence from the original Star Wars concept artwork by late Ralph McQuarrie.
Ubisoft revealed the date of release for their next star Wars Outlaws game.
With a new teaser showing a better view of its location and characters, Ubisoft revealed the date of release for their forthcoming Star Wars Outlaws game. Set between the events of *The Empire Strikes Back* and *Return of the Jedi*, *Star Wars Outlaws* is an open-world action-adventure game whereby players enter the scoundrel boots of Kay Vess, a lady searching the galaxy for a better life. Kay will negotiate the several landscapes, towns, and planets around the galaxy, outsmarting both Crime Syndicates and the Empire along with her animal friend Nix and fresh companions she finds along the journey.
Pre-orders for the title are now available; Star Wars Outlaws launches on August 31 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Ubisoft Connect and Epic Games Store.
Acolyte Showrunner Confirmed Massive Star Wars Twist Ahead Of Show Premiere
Showrunner for The Acolyte, Leslye Headland, has revealed a significant turn in her forthcoming Star Wars TV drama. Set in the tail end of the High Republic Era, when the light of the Jedi first started to fade, The Acolyte promises to be a character study in light and gloom. Rumors have been circulating for weeks about Amandla Stenberg, who would be performing not one but two roles. Those rumors have been verified now.
Good Morning America interviewed Leslye Headland, the Acolyte showrunner, this morning to find that this is the tale of two twins, Osha and Mae, who were "separated by tragedy when they were very young." Osha joined the Jedi Order and trained under Jedi Master Sol, finally departing "because she has so much internal turmoil that she's not able to connect with the Force in the way that maybe she was destined to." Mae is on the warpath after presumed dead has returned.
The Most Exciting Tatooine Yet: A Star Wars Outlaws Developer Tease
With its new protagonist, Kay Vess, traversing the Outer Rim and handling the criminal underworld during a period when the Empire is preoccupied by the mounting rebellion, Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment's Star Wars Outlaws has been touted as the first real open-world adventure. Players will be able to visit famous planets including Tatooine throughout the game's campaign; although this place has often been covered since its debut in the first Star Wars film in 1977, Star Wars Outlaws seems set to be the most intriguing variation of it yet.
Screen Rant visited Art Director Marthe Jonkers and World Director Cloé Hammoud of Star Wars Outlaws at Summer Game Fest 2024 to explore some of the world-building shown in the game, from designing new worlds like Toshara to reinterpretation of franchise classics. The pair said in this interview that they would not reimagine a well-known planet like Tatooine but were extending it outside of the likes of Mos Eisley and Jabba's Palace as part of building the Open World of the game, with new colonies to explore that delve into what players know about the planet from other Star Wars media.
Although Jabba the Hutt and the Pyke Syndicate have been founded on Tatooine, it will be intriguing to see what other fresh Star Wars world characters gamers will be engaging with.
With this character revealed momentarily toward the end of the Ubisoft Forward showcase footage, a great part of Star Wars Outlaws' gameplay seems to revolve on the relationships Kay Vess forms as she carries out jobs for various criminal factions and the idea of one of Tatooine's settlements having some kind of a Sheriff seems like it's bound to play into that.
Although it is difficult to adapt a famous site like Tatooine, Massive Entertainment seems to be doing it in its natural flow, giving players the opportunity to explore highly realistic renditions of locations from the movies as well as something fresh within the somewhat familiar region.
Hammoud, Director of the Game
Being able to add new Tatooine locations was absolutely fantastic, and we really dug into the source material George Lucas used to construct that world to remain true and genuine in the look and feel of the universe. We built a new settlement with a Sheriff that really embodies a frontier. Although I'm not able to provide too many specifics, there is much more to reveal here; so, I hope players would be equally eager to find this place.
Cloé Hammoud:
