Genshin Impact has a bunch of characters, but not all of them are playable right now. Some of them are just NPCs, like Dainleif, who keeps showing up but hasn’t become playable yet. But now, with the release of Natlan coming up, leaks about the game are popping up everywhere. One leak says that a classic Genshin Impact character might finally be released!
According to the leakers, Full Stop Chan and HXG, Madame Ping might be playable in the next Lantern Rite Festival. This event usually happens in early 2025, so that would be Version 5.4. The leak says that Madame Ping will use a polearm in battle, which is good news for Xiao because that polearm is rumored to have a CRIT DMG sub-stat.
The possibility of Madame Ping becoming playable has been talked about for a long time. But this leak gives hope that it might actually happen. Madame Ping’s story has been revealed over the years, and we know more about her humanoid Adeptus form called Streetward Rambler. Genshin Impact hasn’t released a Playable Character with an elderly body model yet, so if the leak is true, the young version of Streetward Rambler will probably be the playable character.
Something similar happened with Cloud Retainer. Cloud Retainer was first an animal NPC, but later her human form appeared in an illustration during the 2023 Lantern Rite. During this year’s Lantern Rite, Xianyun, the human form of Cloud Retainer, was released as a Playable Character. Since the design for Streetward Rambler is already out there, it seems like only a matter of time before Madame Ping becomes playable. And the Lantern Rite is the perfect time for that to happen!
Every year during the Lantern Rite, the game shifts focus away from the main Nation of the year and returns to Liyue. Players get to see the past, especially because they interact with the long-living Adepti. We learned that Madame Ping took on an elderly form to live among people as a way to deal with the loss of her friend, Guizhong. If the rumors are true, then more story content about Streetward Rambler will probably be added to the game too.
Even though Version 5.4 is a long way off, there’s still time for things to change. The leaks could be wrong, or Madame Ping’s release might be delayed. But it’s fun to think about it!
It’s always important to take leaks with a grain of salt, but this one is pretty exciting. The idea of another playable Adeptus shows how much HoYoverse cares about Liyue and its history. And the rumors of her Polearm having a super high CRIT DMG stat could be amazing for Xiao. Xiao got a lot of attention after Xianyun was released earlier this year, and this new polearm could be even better for him!
So, we’ll just have to wait and see if Madame Ping actually becomes playable. But even if it doesn’t happen, the leaks are a lot of fun to think about. And who knows, maybe we’ll see some new story content about Streetward Rambler soon. We can always hope!
