Honkai: Star Rail’s Leaked Chronicled Wish Banner Is A Terrible Mistake
New Honkai: Star Rail banner leaks have emerged and hint at the introduction of a mechanic that will repeat a terrible Genshin Impact mistake. The games developed by HoYoverse share a lot of similarities in the sense that both are Gachas with obtainable characters whose progression and upgrades rely on farming. Despite the differences in the narrative and gameplay style, the games have shared mechanics and there is a lot of overlap when it comes to updates. A new Genshin Impact 4.8 UI leak is heavily inspired by a feature that has long been present in Honkai, for instance.
Now, a new leak suggests that the turn-based RPG will gain the worst type of banner used in the action RPG. According to information obtained by the leaker known as GuraLover, which was then shared in a post tagged as “Questionable” on Reddit, Honkai: Star Rail will receive a mixed banner that is similar to Genshin Impact’s Chronicled Wish, though the exact rules for pulling are still uncertain. Chronicled Wish was introduced to Genshin Impact earlier this year, offering a roster of possible 5-star characters and weapons that have been absent from dedicated rerun banners for a while.
The Banner In Genshin Impact Worked Poorly
The possibility of the turn-based RPG gaining a mixed banner to the likes of the Chronicled Wish sounds like a terrible idea given the system’s poor functionality in Genshin Impact. The idea behind Chronicled Wish is to bring characters that are not getting a rerun anytime soon and offer players a chance to get them. While it does sound like a great way of circumventing the lack of Banner reruns, the character selection in Honkai: Star Rail can be the banner’s own worst enemy.
In the first Chronicled Wish, the roster of characters was composed of six 5-star characters, two of which are not part of the regular pool of rewards for all Banners. As such, this banner was doing very little favors for anyone who did not want Albedo and Eula, the only two who relied specifically on their own dedicated banners. On top of that, the Chronicled Wish also has 50-50 mechanics, just like any other banner, but it seems even more discouraging to watch a desired character be lost to a standard character in Genshin Impact instead of another limited-time unit.
Honkai: Star Rail's Chronicled Wish Could Be Even Worse
Players get to select who or what weapon they desire and if their first 5-star pull is not what they selected, the next is ensured to be. This pity system is reminiscent of Genshin’s own mixed weapons banner, which is also problematic. Overall, the idea of bringing absent characters back into rotation with a mixed banner is good, but the execution so far has been poor, which sparks concern about how Honkai: Star Rail is planning to implement the system if the Leaks are true.
Honkai: Star Rail tends to be a lot more generous to its players than Genshin Impact. This makes the inclusion of Chronicled Wish-style banner even more concerning. In Genshin Impact, the system has been heavily criticized for its mechanics and many players have felt that the banner system isn’t functional. There are a lot of characters in Honkai: Star Rail, so having a banner with characters that are not a part of the standard pool of characters will definitely increase the probability of getting a character that a player does not want. This can be highly discouraging and, thus, can easily be the banner’s own worst enemy.
Honkai: Star Rail's Character Pool Could Cause Big Problems
If Honkai: Star Rail’s version of the Chronicled Wish banner ends up having characters that were originally only on limited banners, it could lead to a similar situation to the one seen in Genshin Impact. Players who are looking for a specific character may find themselves getting a character that they do not want instead. The probability of getting a desired character will likely be lower. While the standard banner rates will likely remain the same, the addition of more 5-Star Characters to the pool will make it more difficult for players to get a specific character, especially for newer players. For the sake of Honkai: Star Rail’s player base, it would be best for HoYoverse to reconsider the Chronicled Wish banner, as it might end up being a terrible mistake.
For now, however, this information should be taken with a grain of salt, as it may be incorrect or subject to change. If the initial leak is true, more details about the system should start emerging through other Leaks and eventually culminate in a confirmation. It does, however, not seem like a far-fetched addition considering Honkai: Star Rail’s playable character roster is expanding with every patch.
