Whoa! A Star Wars Bounty Hunter Became a Forest Moon God?!
From Empire Lackey to Ewok Deity: 4-LOM's Unexpected Rise to Power!
Hold onto your lightsabers, Star Wars fans! Marvel's new canonical comic, Ewoks #1 (written by Steven Orlando, art by Alvaro Lopez, and colors by Laura Braga), reveals a mind-blowing twist! A classic bounty hunter from The Empire Strikes Back, the infamous 4-LOM, has become a freakin' god on Endor! Yes, you read that right.
The story starts after the Battle of Endor, and the Rebels left the Ewoks on their own after those triumphant victories against the Empire. The Empire however, was still there; they wanted this hidden cache of weapons. To get that stuff? General Koyatta (of the Empire) brought in some major players, some awesome bounty hunters, which included Zuckuss and 4-LOM, who will play surprisingly significant roles that are critical for understanding this plot arc!
4-LOM: The Accidental God of Endor!
Things get weird. The bounty hunter team ran into the Duloks (those green-furred Endor natives). After beating them (big time), a dying Dulok calls 4-LOM "The Adversary"— some kind of super powerful god-like being related to that moon’s religions. This would set the stage for several intense conflicts between these vastly different factions inhabiting this one area, demonstrating once again just how creative and unexpected those themes which run through Star Wars storytelling actually are.
This accidental deification of 4-LOM might give some seriously strategic advantage! Using the legend around his appearance in this narrative creates a surprising opportunity; which also presents itself quite early in the storytelling of this latest comic!
Mistaken Identity: Not the First Droid to Become a Deity
Remember C-3PO being worshipped as a god by the Ewoks in Return of the Jedi? This is almost like that but entirely different. It really was completely about Threepio's shiny golden plating and mysterious robotic appearance which seemed so god-like in the eyes of that naive audience, even if they later decided that he was completely harmless.
This latest development, this unintentional misidentification, highlights that particular shared theme of “mistaken identity.” This situation also highlights 4-LOM's inherently dangerous nature— making it plausible that an entirely similar misidentification becomes far more troubling than previously seen in a very surprising plot development. And given how seriously sinister this whole new situation becomes, the use of that particular plot twist brings in immense intrigue and generates many questions for what could be possibly happen, especially if viewers examine the possible ways those hidden weapons caches might influence this galaxy far, far away!
Conclusion: The Force…and Other Things…Are Strong with This One!
Ewoks #1 really shook things up. It really is incredibly exciting to finally get another awesome new storyline for Star Wars and adding that unexpected god-like elevation for this one legendary Bounty Hunter is definitely amazing!
The story leaves much unexplained. It's just the start. It makes viewers question that nature of power, the unpredictability of this larger universe's scale; which those various societies that could either take advantage, exploit this deification or use it for nefarious purposes; ultimately showcasing a deeper, far more meaningful storytelling capability within the context of this comic!
