For many years, Johnny Blaze was attached to the Spirit of Vengeance; hearing him wish to murder it is among the most upsetting events in Ghost Rider's history. But Blaze's hand has been pushed by lately occurrences. Through as yet unidentified channels, Parker Robbins, the supernatural criminal known as the Hood, has seized the Spirit away from Blaze. The Hood always had a mystical cloak, but right now he is super-charged with Ghost Rider power. Working his way back into the criminal underground, the Hood has employed the Spirit.
A villain with the Spirit of Vengeance is a frightening idea, and the Hood's behavior in Ghost Rider: Final Vengeance #4 explains why. The Hood kills other crooks in graphic fashion using the two power sources at hand. He has also sided with Helmuth and a vampire clan, acting as their foot troops. It is yet unknown how someone like the Hood might employ the Spirit Of Vengeance. He has solely focused on criminals thus far, though, and maybe this offers the workaround he requires to call forth the Spirit.
Ghost Rider's most notorious host is Johnny Blaze, who also has a fresh goal: once and for all slay the Spirit of Vengeance. Blaze recently broke off from Ghost Rider, and the new host is the criminal genius Hood. After his greatest fears come true, Johnny Blaze is looking for a means of stopping the Hood; in Ghost Rider: Final Vengeance #4, he unveils a perhaps unexpected endgame.
Benjamin Perry wrote Final Vengeance #4, and Danny Kim drew it. While the Hood uses the Spirit of Vengeance to unite his force, Johnny Blaze and Zeb the Night Magician talk about how to stop him at a Minnesota roadside cafe. Blaze and Zeb argue the Spirit: Johnny is not eager to see it again, while Zeb claims Blaze maintained it under better control than anybody else. Blaze then raises a startling prospect: really destroying the Spirit of Vengeance and "exorcizing" it from the planet once and for eternity.
Whatever Hood attempts to justify his behavior, though, the Spirit of Vengeance in his hands makes him a threat to not only Johnny Blaze but the whole Marvel Universe. It seems not too far-fetched when Blaze suggests murdering Ghost Rider for good. Moreover, Blaze's long and controversial relationship with the Spirit of Vengeance surely had influence on his choice. Though the book's title, Final Vengeance seems to suggest this may be Ghost Rider's last journey, whether Blaze's idea comes to pass or not is yet unknown.
Marvel Comics currently sells Final Vengeance #4 as Ghost Rider: Final Vengeance! Fourth Final Vengeance for Ghost Rider: 2024
