Kitty-Kat Joins Spider-Man in "Spider-Men: Reign 2" Black Cat's Daughter
Kitty-Kat, the daughter of Black Cat, the venerable villain-turned-hero, serves as Spider-man's new sidekick and possible love interest. In "Spider-Man: Reign 2 #1," a new, hideous version of Kingpin holds Peter Parker of the Reign Universe, known as Earth-70237, captive in a virtual reality meant to keep him sedate. Her first appearance in the "Spider-Man: Reign" universe, Kitty-kat saves him from his virtual prison.
Spider-Man: Reign 2: Earth-70237's Future
Set thirty years forward, "Spider-man: Reign 2" carries on the narrative started in the 2007 series "Spider-Man: Reign." Kaare Andrews writes and draws the series; Brian Weber and Andrews handle the colors. Heroes are banned in this dystopian future and replaced by the WEBB System run under the direction of a crooked mayor. Peter Parker's love interest, Mary Jane Watson, passed away tragically; her death is a contentious event in Spider-Man's history. Mary Jane Watson is still alive in the virtual reality Spider-Man finds, but Peter Parker's future is bleak.
Kitty-Kat's Rescue: A Curious Debt
Kitty-Kat arrives by sending two guards then kisses Peter, releasing his mind from the tool controlling him with her special mix of feline grace and acrobatic skills. Her presence highlights important facts: Peter saved the Hardy family at some point in the past; her mother, Felicia Hardy (Black Cat), is still alive. Kitty-kat gestures dramatically as she puts the recognizable Spider-Man mask on otherwise naked Peter Parker, allowing the two to flee into the New York City underworld.
Norman Osborn, who has evolved into a hideous goblin, planned their escape and added another level of mystery to the circumstances. This disclosure points to a convoluted and maybe deadly alliance between Kitty-Kat and the notorious Green Goblin.
Kitty-Kat's costume pays homage to Catwoman.
Although Black Cat and Catwoman have many things in common, mostly on a surface level, Kitty-Kat's costume draws influence from Catwoman, especially Dawyn Cooke's portrayal of Selina Kyle from the 2002 "Catwoman" series, penned by Ed Brubaker. Kitty-Kat wears a full body covering costume with insect-like goggles. Her costume has a distinctive and unforgettable feature—a big bell she wears around her neck.
Deciphering the Enigma: Kitty-Kat's Motives
Still unknown are Kitty-Kat's motivations for helping Norman Osborn, her driving force, and Felicia Hardy's fate in the Reign Universe. But Kitty-Kat is obviously a strong and competent person, meant to leave her mark in the "Spider-Man: Reign" universe, just as her mother is. Cosplayers probably will find inspiration in her outfit and character.
