Shanks could object to Luffy since their plans differ.
Among the series' toughest characters is Shanks. One of the four emperors, he accompanied Gol D. Roger's expedition when Roger discovered the One Piece. Shanks's enigmatic character makes many of his supporters unsure of the degree of his ambition or strength. Shanks had to have some kind of drive to get the title even if he was not intending to be an emperor. Chapter 1054, "Flame Emperor," suggests Shanks knows the actual nature of the Gum-Gum Fruit when he pilfers it from a World Government vessel.
Shanks sought to guard the Nika fruit from the World Government and must have known it was that fruit. Many people believe Shanks wanted Luffy to consume the Devil Fruit since he wouldn't be reckless enough to let anybody near the Nika fruit he took from the World Government unless he had some type of scheme. This is strengthened by his sacrifice of his arm to save Luffy and his handing of the Nika fruit.
How may a conflict between Luffy and Shanks turn out?
A conflict between Shanks and Luffy would be fierce and fundamentally alter One Piece's universe. It might even have the same effect on Marineford, where the globe was permanently altered later, as Whitebeard's crew did. As viewers would be able to witness Shanks fight with his full capability, the conflict between Luffy and Shanks would turn into the largest one of the series. Fans would also have a fantastic opportunity to see how much Luffy has changed since their initial viewing of Shanks and Luffy on television together.
The last battle will have conflicting feelings whether Shanks turns evil like the other Celestial Dragons shown in the series or stays a kind guy like he is portrayed right now. Should Luffy find herself returning the Straw Hat to Shanks following the fight, this event could prove to be the most memorable one in One Piece for fans waiting two decades.
The Perfect Final Boss For Luffy Was Never Who Fans Thought One Piece
Many One Piece viewers think Blackbeard will be Luffy's last challenge in finding the last treasure and assuming the Pirate King. Another common belief, though, is that another pirate close to Luffy might be Red-Haired Shanks. It's only reasonable that the last fight would set Luffy against Shanks since Shanks gave him the Straw Hat and helped him get his pirate moniker.
Despite his little screen time, Shanks has always been a favorite character for One Piece's 25-year readers. Shanks's philosophy and character are mostly unknown; the puzzle of his character is what draws followers to appreciate the red-haired pirate. Since nobody knows what his actual objectives are, many fans believe the hypothesis of Shanks turning into an enemy for Luffy makes sense. His motivations are quite flexible.
Shanks: An Uncertain Figure
Shanks also has a dubious relationship with the Celestial Dragons; this is seen especially in Shanks's private conference with the Five Elders back in Chapter #907. When all is said and done, Shanks is not a carefree pirate; rather, he has certain objectives and plans that will unavoidably collide with Luffy's since both desire the One Piece. When they cross paths, it is improbable they will work together; so, a fight to choose the next Pirate King could follow.
Given the great unknown about the red-haired pirate, one finds it difficult to guess his actual goals. He might have an even more darker motivation for supporting Luffy. Shanks might even be aiming to stop Luffy from becoming Pirate King for another purpose else entirely.
