Prime Video's upcoming series Young Sherlock is a return to the world of Guy Ritchie, but it faces some competition. The upcoming Prime Video series, starring Hero Fiennes Tiffin, will see Sherlock Holmes in his youth. Young Sherlock will follow the detective as he solves a murder mystery in Oxford while living with his parents, played by Natasha McElhone and Joseph Fiennes.
Although the premise of Young Sherlock is interesting, it has a lot in common with CBS' upcoming series Einstein. Einstein is based on a German series of the same name and focuses on Albert Einstein's great-grandson, who solves crimes with the help of police officers. Both series feature young, brilliant individuals who use their unique abilities to solve crimes.
While both Einstein and Young Sherlock feature young prodigies solving crimes, they have some differences, like setting. The procedural structure and character types are similar, which could lead to competition between the series.
Young Sherlock may not have to worry too much, as the production of Einstein is still uncertain. NBC was the first network to try adapting the German series in 2018. A year later, Brickman and Zisk developed a version for Cbs, which never launched. CBS tried again in 2020 with a gender-swapped version of Einstein.
This most recent attempt is the third time Cbs has tried to make Einstein. Without a cast or shooting date, Einstein is still in the early stages and could fall victim to the same fate as previous attempts to adapt the German show. If both series do happen, their similar premises could make them rivals.
