This Amazing Star Wars Cosplay Brings a Brand-New Jedi to Life in the Old Republic Era
The Old Republic is one of the lesser-known eras of the Star Wars timeline, but one cosplayer has created a Jedi that brings that era to life. The Old Republic existed thousands of years before the original Star Wars trilogy and has been explored in media such as the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic video games, but there is still a lot about it to learn, especially in canon. Though times have changed for the Jedi by the time they're portrayed in the movies, the Old Republic remains a very important part of their history in the galaxy.
Cosplayer Elissa has since added her own piece of Old Republic lore by posting her original character on Instagram, which brings her creation to life. Elissa references a series of stories she's posted about the character that some of her followers might be familiar with, saying, “If you've seen my stories recently, you'll know that this is what I've been working on these past couple of months!” The creation was part of her final project in university, and it's clear that Elissa put a lot of hard work into it. All her Jedi character needs now is a name, according to Elissa.
Old Republic Jedi Used Lightsabers To Indicate Rank
The Star Wars movies might not mention many details about Lightsabers, but their customizable designs actually carry a lot more weight than it seems. The time period that the prequel trilogy takes place in still uses lightsabers as rank indicators, but there is a much smaller emphasis placed on them than there was back during the Old Republic. The color that these ancient Jedi's kyber crystals took on would communicate to other Jedi what their focus was on.
Jedi had many different options for specialties, and the color of their Lightsaber blade indicated that. Blue lightsabers imply a focus on combat, while green signifies a strong connection to the Force. Yellow blades indicated that their wielders were Guardians, a role that goes completely unmentioned in the Movies. With so much unexplored lore, there's a lot that Star Wars can do with lightsabers in future projects, especially by honing in on the Old Republic era.
Despite being a beloved time period in the Star Wars timeline, canon has little to show about the Old Republic, which makes this era - and its Lightsabers - highly desirable to audiences. Hopefully, projects such as James Mangold's upcoming Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi movie will pave the way for something from the Old Republic to be made by stretching the Star Wars timeline far enough. One day, the Old Republic and its lightsaber-wielding Jedi will be seen again in Star Wars canon, and Elissa's Jedi already looks the part.
