King George Still Alive During Third Bridgerton Season?
Bridgerton season 3 is established by continuity between Bridgerton's seasons and Queen Charlotte as occurring right after the events of Queen Charlotte's present timeline, as Queen Charlotte asked Violet for help in getting her sons married after realizing the matriarch's success in getting two children married off in Queen Charlotte. Given that the ton's families returned to London in spring for the season and Queen Charlotte's events occurred in winter, this makes King George most likely alive in Bridgerton season 3 as he was seen alive by Queen Charlotte's ending, which should have happened mere months before Bridgerton season 3.
History also indicates King George is still alive in the year Bridgerton season 3 is set. Whistledown initially published in the season of 1813 and being at least at least in its 35th in Bridgerton season 3 identifies the events of season 3 as occurring in 1815 from Queen Charlotte's beginning. Historically, 1815 is exactly in the midst of George IV's regency from 1811 to 1820, when George III passed away; King George is still alive in Bridgerton Season 3 and the next assuming Bridgerton season 4 does not involve time jumps.
King George's Absence Hits Queen Charlotte Differently
In both worlds, Queen Charlotte presents a moving portrait of King George's situation. If the past shows George struggling to keep his illness secret from Charlotte as he is subjected to treatments tantamount to torture, the present shows how the two king could still find who they were and treasure their love as they struggle with the reality of King George's illness in Queen Charlotte's ending. But understanding the difficulties King George and Queen Charlotte had to deal with from their narrative in Queen Charlotte and knowing their true story made George's absence in Bridgerton Season 3 all the more painful.
Indeed, the setting of Bridgerton season 3 puts it midway during George VI's regency, suggesting that his condition has most likely gotten worse in Bridgerton. Knowing how bad things already were in Queen Charlotte and Bridgerton season 2 makes his and Charlotte's story all the more tragic, somewhat justifying Queen Charlotte's extreme attention on discovering the truth about Lady Whistledown in Bridgerton Season 3 if that diverted her from the heartbreaks of her personal life.
The Part Queen Charlotte Plays in Season Three
Though not much is known about King George or Charlotte's story, Queen Charlotte's part in Bridgerton season 3 is as significant as in past seasons of the Shondaland-Netflix TV drama if not more. King George's health in Bridgerton season 3 is unknown, which conflicts with his part in Bridgerton season 2. King George's brief presence in Bridgerton season 3 especially stands out there since it provides an insight into his and Queen Charlotte's love, which was highlighted in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story on the queen and king's simultaneously heartwarming and sad love story.
Not just because of the forthcoming, at the time, spinoff, but also because it worked with Edwina's decision between resuming her wedding or hunting for real love, thematically it made sense for Bridgerton season 2 to offer a glimpse into George and Charlotte's private life. It was not logical for the show to provide updates on King George at the same time, when Queen Charlotte was relentlessly searching for the truth about Lady Whistledown in Bridgerton season 3. He was never part of her search. King George appears in Bridgerton season 3 here.
