Why Wheel of Time Season 3 Has a Big Problem With Callandor
The Wheel Of Time season 3 is making a big leap in the story by skipping directly to events in The Shadow Rising, the fourth book in the Wheel of Time series. But this jump might cause trouble for a very important moment: when Rand al'Thor gets his hands on Callandor, a powerful artifact that's a huge part of the whole series.
You see, in the books, Rand finds Callandor in the Stone of Tear, which is where he's supposed to go after battling at Falme. But the show hasn't quite set things up the same way for Rand. So, people are guessing that the series might change things up a bit to make it all work.
How Can Wheel of Time Season 3 Adapt Callandor Without a Trip to Tear?
The problem is that Rand's journey in The Shadow Rising leads him to Rhuidean, which is way far away from Tear. Plus, everyone expects the show to go to the Aiel Waste next because Aviendha sees him as the Car'a'carn, and Rhuidean is a confirmed location for season 3.
So, how can the show fit Callandor in? One idea is to have Rand find it in the Aiel Waste instead. This could be a big change, but it might be easier than skipping it altogether or waiting until it's not as important.
Moving Callandor to the Aiel Waste Could Combine Two Big Fights
Imagine if Callandor was one of the access keys that Rand needs to get to the Choeden Kal in Rhuidean. This would tie Callandor into The Shadow Rising's story, even though it's not there in the books. And since Be'lal might be cut out of the show anyway, it might make sense to combine his fight with Rand at the Stone of Tear with Rand's fight against Asmodean in Rhuidean.
Maybe Asmodean uses Callandor to lure Rand to him, and their fight ends up with Rand claiming Callandor and uniting the Aiel. It would be a different way of doing it, but it could still be a big moment.
The Problem With Moving Callandor From Tear
Even though the show could make it work, there's a big risk in moving Callandor from Tear: It might lose a lot of its epicness. That moment when Rand pulls Callandor out of the Stone of Tear is super cool in the books because it's like the classic story of King Arthur getting the sword from the stone. It shows that Rand is the real Dragon Reborn.
If it happens in the Aiel Waste, it wouldn't be the same, even if the show made it look really awesome. It's a big deal in the books, and losing that might feel like a big change for some people.
