The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4 and Beyond: Will Mickey Haller Keep Rolling?
Netflix's The Lincoln Lawyer is back! And it sounds like there’s so much more where that came from! Season 3 hits screens October 17th, adapting Michael Connelly’s books (this is the second screen adaptation; the first was a movie in 2011 starring Matthew McConaughey). But showrunners Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez recently spilled some seriously interesting details about this series' potential longevity. We’re talking potential seasons beyond season 3!
Humphrey and Rodriguez, talking to TV Insider, hinted season 3 sets up storylines in that planned season 4 and it also provides additional setups and directions, and they already have ideas for seasons 5 and 6 (these use already-existing source materials). This level of planning; combined with other available narrative plots means it might run longer; especially given how strong previous seasons’ outcomes already suggest the production might already be able to go and create new seasons given sufficient success; those numbers are key in driving any decision relating to continuation of a TV series like this. Here are those hints for anyone curious about this development!
Rodriguez said, “We always set up sort of the next case of the season. This one won’t quite set up the next case, but it will definitely set up the next book.” Humphrey added, “I think we can say this season will definitely propel us in a very exciting and personal way into a Season 4. Michael [Connelly] hints that he’s potentially working on another Lincoln Lawyer book beyond the ones that have already been published. We don’t know that for sure. Obviously, if he is working on one, we are very eager to read it. We have plans internally for how to adapt versions of all the books. If the audience keeps enjoying what we’re doing, then we will keep making the show… we would go for a potential Season 5 and even 6 beyond that.”
Seasons 1 and 2? Total successes! Season 3 looks strong! All of these are exceptionally important and impact potential success; it bodes extremely well for a season 4 renewal; especially for Netflix – they are huge on renewals; this is especially important with how profitable and highly regarded this entire series has become. There’s plenty of source material left in Michael Connelly’s seven Mickey Haller novels. Seasons 1-3 covered only three novels!
(Connelly himself, speaking with ScreenRant, confirmed he's working on another Lincoln Lawyer novel!) So long as fans keep tuning in (and these are also impacted greatly by the overall production; particularly how capable this current cast might continue being part of such production). There’s a good reason to believe that The Lincoln Lawyer could go on for several more years. This assumes both audience members continue paying attention to this particular TV series. If they remain, this would help ensure that The Lincoln Lawyer remains.
There is enormous untapped storytelling potential, using novels yet to be adapted – along with some unresolved storylines and narrative details never explained fully; even hints from earlier seasons! Think Lisa Trammell (revealed as her husband's killer in season 2!), or Cisco's past! This could bring exciting developments regarding several characters in this production.
We even expect Neve Campbell's return (although she is currently absent in Season 3). There's room for growth and plenty more compelling cases to develop and showcase in future seasons!
It’s a high-stakes game! Yet it shows clear plans for continuing. And given the overall success already found and achieved thus far, those excellent story opportunities that show up throughout previous installments provide further incentives to use existing successful formulas; coupled with already planned future adventures. Even new developments like that newly anticipated Connelly novel add extra weight towards this. If the success holds up and they retain existing crew and staff; these excellent story arcs are likely to continue.
Will the viewing numbers last? We might not know this yet! But The Lincoln Lawyer's early success plus the enthusiasm from behind-the-scenes means Mickey Haller might just be rolling for many seasons!
