The Boys' Very First Story Is Officially Completed Five Years Later
Though it marks the end of the Amazon series's initial run after five years, The Boys Season 4 might not be the last one. The beginning episodes of The Boys season 4 clearly point to something significant even if they deviate somewhat from typical. Season five of The Boys is announced and will help to bring the show to an end. Obviously, the present run of episodes has to build to the approaching clash between Homelander and the title team. Since there might not be time to go back over lesser subplots and character arcs later, they also have to begin wrapping them.
Resolving the first narrative of the show, season 4's episode 4 makes steps towards this aim. Though the battle between Homelander and Butcher drives the story, season 1 begins with neither of them. The Boys starts with an inciting occurrence, and the Amazon series at last provides closure for the viewers and characters on that front.
A-Train & Hughie Shaking Hands Officially Ends The Boys' Very First Feud
A-train's prospective redemption arc is set up in season 4 of The Boys, and episode 4 shows him and Hughie settling the very first plotline of the program. A-Train runs into Hughie's girlfriend at the start of Season 1, and Hughie meets Butcher and signs on the titular squad after Robin dies. Over the first three seasons of The Boys, Hughie and A-Train had a few run-ins; the characters are quite resentful of one another. But five years after The Boys' series premiere, they at last bury the hatchet in "Wisdom of the Ages."
Hughie feels desperate enough to seek out to A-Train for assistance while his father lies on deathbed. Unexpectedly, A-Train accepts when he requests the Supe to steal Compound V from Vought Tower for him. Though Hughie argues he owes it to him, he is hesitant. A-Train advises Hughie, wanting to be debt-free, that this will make the two of them "good, forever." And he comes through, resulting in the Compound V twist for season 4 of The Boys. The Boys' first conflict at last closes with A-Train and Hughie's handshake.
The Boys Season 4's Robin's Death Is Not Longer a Consideration
The show has been aiming toward Hughie forgiving A-Train closing out The Boys' initial storyline. Hughie's encounter with A-Train provides closure for Robin's death; but, Hughie has also moved on most of all. Hughie's early seasons of The Boys find Robin as a motivator, much as Becca is what propels Butcher into retribution. Unlike Butcher, Hughie transcends his grief and rage. Instead, he starts a relationship with Starlight, discovers purpose, and develops fresh friendships—all of which start to guide his behavior.
Robin hardly appears by the time The Boys Season 4 starts, hence Hughie's shot at A-Train is infrequent. Given Robin is no longer a prominent player in Hughie's character journey, it is time to close down Hughie and A-Train's conflict. Hughie is obviously concerned with other things even if she sets him on the road towards his present situation. Center stage are his father, his relationships with The Boys, and the fate of the planet. Hughie is still moving on even if he might not be quite over Robin. The Boys ought to do as well.
Hughie's Forgiveness Means A-Train Can Officially Join The Boys.
Hughie first objects to MM's attempt to flip A-Train, one of his first acts as the new The Boys leader. Getting a Supe from The Seven on their side would greatly benefit the squad. Hughie, though, lets his prior resentments color his judgment. Hughie has forgiven A-Train now, hence the Supe can enter the team in some form. A-Train isn't totally against supporting The Boys, but his actions imply he's not totally against it either.
A-Train isn't totally on board with supporting The Boys, but his behavior suggests he's not totally against it either. Of all the Seven members, A-Train is clearly having the greatest time tolerating Homelander's most recent pranks. Furthermore well-known is A-Train's tense relationship with Vought and its marketing staff. The Supe betrays them by supporting Hughie and MM, hence it's quite likely The Boys season 4 will drive him to the other side of its core fight. And A-Train will have greater Supe authority and insider knowledge if she joins the crew. Either could stack the cards in their advantage.
