The most divisive decision made in The Last Jedi is repeated in Acolyte Episode 7.
One of the most hotly contested Jedi mistakes from The Last Jedi has just been echoed by The Acolyte. As shown in The Acolyte episode 7, the flashback on Brendok keeps Mae and Osha Aniseya as young children. This episode reveals the terrible night four Jedi collided with the Force cult of witches producing the girls. Jedi Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) makes a crucial mistake during this confrontation that reflects the same one Luke Skywalker made, which finally resulted in the destruction of Luke's Jedi academy before the sequel trilogy started.
Actions Mirror of Jedi Master Sol The creations of Luke Skywalker
Sol's impulsive murder of Mother Aniseya reflects the moment when Luke Skywalker briefly considered killing his own nephew, Ben Solo, after discovering the darkness inside him, as tweeted by @darthnoire. In both cases Sol and Luke Skywalker behaved with apparently good intentions. Both acts, however, had terrible results that resulted in the corruption of people they aimed to defend and left both of them with terrible guilt.
The Choice Made by Master Sol Seems Like Luke's With Kylo Ren
Driven by a great need to save Osha and protect her, Sol offered to take her as his Padawan in the flashback of The Acolyte episode 7 following her decision to become a Jedi. But the disclosure of her and Mae's backgrounds set off a hostile interaction between the Jedi and the witches. Sol misunderstand Mother Aniseya's attempt to save Mae as a hostile threat directed against Osha. Sol kills Aniseya with his lightsaber in a flash of hasty judgment, only to discover too late that she was merely trying to get Mae out of harm and meant to let Osha go with the Jedi.
Like Luke Skywalker's divisive Last Jedi moment when he feared the possible darkness Ben Solo would embrace and the destruction he could unleash, Sol's aims were honorable but misguided. Luke thought about killing Ben momentarily to stop future suffering instead of trying to assist his nephew in overcoming his darkness. This event was sufficient for Ben to feel betrayed by his uncle and master, so confirming his plunge into the dark side with Snoke and the future First Order.
Both Jedi Master Sol and Luke unintentionally guided children toward the dark side.
Sadly, the aftermath for both Jedi was quite similar. Mae turns to the dark side after Mother Aniseya dies and Sol chooses Osha as his Padawan, thus Mae becomes the acolyte of Qimir, sometimes known as The Stranger. Likewise, Luke's moment of weakness assured the death of his Jedi academy and the dark side would claim his nephew. Later on, both Jedi were engulfed in guilt; they are moving illustrations that even the most moral Jedi are prone to mistake. This will thus be fascinating to see Master Sol's fate now that the truth is revealing itself in the present-day events of The Acolyte.
