Introducing The Stoors: A New Breed of Pre-Hobbits in The Rings of Power
Get ready for a journey to the Second Age! The Rings of Power is expanding on Middle-earth history in an exciting way. Remember all those great details from Tolkien's stories and those wonderful moments that have made us want to read the Lord of the Rings books? That's what Amazon Prime Video's "The Rings of Power" series is all about! In a world where those powerful rings first started to appear and even the darkness we know from Sauron is taking shape.
Now, one of the key changes from the previous seasons is a new bunch of characters known as the Stoors. You probably know the Harfoots from the last season (the ancestors of Frodo, Samwise, and the rest!), and those lovable creatures were the beginning. It's pretty cool, right? It's an origin story about the Hobbits!
A Change In History
Well, there are lots of differences in the Lord of the Rings universe between what’s in the books and what's happening in “The Rings of Power,” and the creators have to figure out a way to give fans those twists and turns to keep people watching. It's not an easy task. Think about it, all the details are so well established in Tolkien’s stories – but you can’t really write a show about those exact details! Imagine the challenges of translating those books for TV.
And you might wonder – "Who even are the Stoors?". They're kinda like another version of Hobbits (with big differences) but living in a dry and super different part of the world from the stories we know and love! You can already see why fans are on edge; this whole "Rings of Power" situation might have its problems!
From the Deserts to the Rivers
You might think that the Stoors are the biggest challenge of the new "Rings of Power" season. But actually, it gets even crazier because, they've gotta find their new home, since their current habitat gets to be, shall we say, unfriendly to Hobbits? So what happens? They migrate to the west, a land with cool flowing rivers and rivers like the Anduin (the same one the characters navigate in the classic Tolkien novels).
These new characters were kind of hidden in the books and now they’re finally getting some serious attention. Their arrival brings along some new people to meet. We’ve got Gundabel and Merimac. I’m not sure about you, but if I were a Hobbit, I'd feel pretty curious about moving a long way to the Anduin just for more water.
Sméagol’s Story: Who Stoors Connected To
It's a little wild, right? The story of these Stoors continues over a thousand years later – during that era, they are pretty renowned in the Anduin River area! You've got this crazy hobbit-creature named Sméagol. He was born into this clan! Turns out, the connection runs super deep, right back to one of the biggest things in The Lord of the Rings: The One Ring! Yeah, crazy stuff.
Sméagol, you probably remember this as the creature Gollum. He was kinda tormented by that super-powerful Ring, because he loved the precious things in life, even when they led him into the darkest parts of Middle-earth! So these Stoors are like, "that one bad dude was kinda a part of our group." Oh yeah, history gets real weird in Tolkien’s stories.
Connecting To Hobbit Ancestors and Beyond
But this isn’t just some historical Easter egg. It’s important for "Rings of Power" to create an even more impressive and extensive story, showing the whole lineage of Hobbits as they develop into those awesome characters we know and love in The Lord of the Rings and “The Hobbit”.
What exactly happened? It’s a long and confusing story for the average Hobbit. Imagine: those three pre-Hobbit groups, the Harfoots, the Fallohides, and our very own Stoors. Over time they came to be one single race - the Hobbits! The Harfoots are kinda like the original template - a super small and loveable group that liked to hang around in those underground burrows. The Fallohides were more outdoorsy and brave with their red hair. Now, remember, those tall and wide, water-loving Stoors? Well, those Hobbit genes eventually found their way into the Hobbit population and gave rise to certain characters who had more "Stoorish" qualities like the Brandybuck clan.
“The Rings of Power” is Still a Mystery
Who's excited to see these Hobbits develop in the next season of “The Rings of Power”? We still don’t know too much about it. Maybe we'll find out a lot more about the pre-Hobbits and how they are tied to that whole “ring-making" plot line that’s developing in “The Rings of Power”. We know how the stories of Tolkien are always filled with some fantastic twists, it’s super fascinating to think of how "Rings of Power" might bring those unique characters to life. Just be ready!
As soon as that “Rings of Power” trailer drops, we're going to see all of those incredible moments in motion: The mystical settings, those familiar characters we love from "The Lord of the Rings”, and some brand-new faces from Middle-earth. We know that the Second Age is about to get much more intense as “The Rings of Power” continues to grow and to show us how things evolved over time in that spectacular universe! The show is bound to make us crave another adventure and explore that history just a little bit further!
