"Lower Decks" Friendship - How a Fictional Bond Transformed Into Real Life
Ever feel like your fictional friends could be real life BFFs? It totally happened to Tawny Newsome and Jack Quaid! These two incredible stars bring Lt. Brad Boimler and Lt. Beckett Mariner to life in the amazing animated comedy, Star Trek: Lower Decks. You probably already know about how those two are the best of friends, always ready for a laugh and a little space adventure together, right?
Well, their fictional friendship spilled over into real life. Tawny and Jack got really close while playing their roles, like, totally tight, brother-and-sister close, which is really sweet, considering that the last season of Lower Decks is set to premiere on October 24! And that will be the end of their journey - at least for now.
Will They Return to Starfleet Academy?
While Star Trek: Lower Decks will be reaching its conclusion, Tawny will definitely be still be part of the Star Trek family. Turns out, she’s not just an awesome voice actress. She’s got serious writing skills! And that's exactly why she’s landed a spot in the writing room for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. Yeah, she's pretty much a writer extraordinaire!
It sounds like there’s going to be a lot of fun on Starfleet Academy with a little more humor too, especially with Tawny joining the creative crew! I hope we’re seeing a lot more Boimler and Mariner on the show! But that's not the end of her career! She's also producing a Star Trek comedy series. Can you even believe that? Imagine those Star Trek-inspired jokes, written and produced by Tawny! That sounds like it would be off the charts hilarious. And you never know; Jack might be part of that series!
What is Star Trek Like After "Lower Decks"?
We'll have to wait and see about Jack's Star Trek adventures, because he's also busy being the heart of The Boys and voice-acting for My Adventures of Superman. If those don't sound familiar - just think Superhero, but with way more grit. Anyway, he’s on the A-list. Even though he’s got a bunch of awesome projects, he'd absolutely go back to the world of Star Trek, especially as Boimler. If he was up for it, maybe the Lower Decks crew will pop back on the screen in another round, possibly bringing back our beloved duo!
Either way, it's amazing that Lower Decks managed to give Star Trek a fun makeover with the addition of animation, some good old comedy, and two characters who actually made an iconic impact. There’s this little, yet huge, moment with Boimler and Mariner’s dynamic on Lower Decks, that resonated beyond those characters, giving Star Trek that extra kick!
Star Trek – More Than Just A Series
I think what makes Star Trek: Lower Decks so good is that it took something with so much history (seriously, the original Star Trek series is iconic! There are tons of shows and movies with their own history, and you’ve gotta pay respect). What those creative brains did on Lower Decks, is find a way to make it fresh and funny. It’s not your average Star Trek with the added spice of laughter, but still maintaining that essence and staying true to the series! Who knew that live-action, or animation, would be this fun!
Even though Lower Decks is about to be part of the Star Trek history books, there are tons of things for both Tawny and Jack to look forward to! Between all their crazy-busy lives and those awesome projects they've been working on, it sounds like they’ll definitely stay connected to the Star Trek galaxy. And there’s no question in our minds: it’s more than likely they will still be part of that world in one way or another - they're too awesome for the Star Trek universe to let go of so easily.
