Pretty Little Liars's Dr. Sullivan's Motivations: Summer School Didn't Make Sense
The decision made by the creators of Pretty Little Liars: Summer School to bring back a historical figure and then drastically alter her demeanor seemed dubious. One minor but important figure from the first series who helped the Liars through their struggle with A was Dr. Sullivan. Although at first her appearance in Summer School looked like a wonderful idea, as the season went on, her actions and goals got more and more erratic.
The showrunners were unable to come up with a convincing cause for Dr. Sullivan to come back, therefore her reasons for doing so got more hazy and nonsensical. Given her prior storyline, Dr. Sullivan's personality shift in Summer School seems illogical. Her reputation as a character from the first season of Pretty Little Liars was also damaged by this change in character, which is regrettable because Annabeth Gish did a fantastic job in the part.
Legacy Characters Should Not Be Included in Max's Pretty Little Liars Spinoff
In the season finale of Pretty Little Liars: Summer School, Dr. Sullivan said something that was utterly uncharacteristic of a therapist who had previously expressed worry for the Liars' welfare. This move harmed the character progression of a well-known character from the first season of Pretty Little Liars and seemed like inconsistent writing for a heritage character.
Although the return of Dr. Sullivan may have been intended to provide a little mystery and a shocking turn of events, the whole thing came across as forced and nonsensical. Watchers were left wondering why the character was brought back in the first place after her abrupt death at the hands of A and her rapid change in demeanor. The decision to bring back Dr. Sullivan was a bad one for the Showrunners. A follow-up to Pretty Little Liars: Summer School should presumably concentrate on the character development of new characters in order to create an engaging plot.
Summer School Transformed the Personality of a Legacy Character in Pretty Little Liars
The cast of Pretty Little Liars: Summer School decided to bring back a well-known character from the first season of the show. Nevertheless, the character's legacy was sacrificed in order to make this choice. In the Spinoff, Dr. SullivAn, a cherished character with a little but important part in the original series, underwent a dramatic personality transformation. In light of her prior deeds and interactions with the people in the first series, this alteration was illogical and ultimately detrimental to her reputation as a character.
The showrunners' choice to do so brought to light the dangers of resurrecting iconic characters in Spinoff series. It is crucial to ensure that their cameos are natural and contribute to the narrative rather than taking away from it. The way Dr. Sullivan's Personality Changed in Summer School demonstrated how a legacy figure may be damaged if their comeback is handled improperly. Before bringing the character into a fresh plot, the showrunners had to have taken her objectives and past into account.
