Star Wars Reversals The Last Prequel Jedi I Anticipated
Alert! The Acolyte episode 4 spoilers are found in this page. The Acolyte episode 4 had a prequel trilogy appearance from the last Jedi Master I expected to see, which really caught me off guard. Other extraterrestrial Jedi Masters with extended lif spans who were both Jedi during the High Republic Era and the Skywalker saga exist outside of Jedi Master Yoda. Having said that, I most definitely never imagined we would be featuring Jedi Master Ki-adi-mundi in The Acolyte.
Set 100 years before the events of The Phantom Menace, The Acolyte is It is therefore occurring in the last days of the High Republic Era, a period of immense peace and wealth for the galaxy. This is a fundamental reason I was so taken aback to see what looked to be Master Ki-adi-mundi in The Acolyte episode 4: The Acolyte setting up the reemergence of Sith Lords predating Palpatine is extremely notable.
The Acolyte Seems To Show A Young Ki-Adi-Mundi
Confirming Mae's escape as noted at the end of The Acolyte episode 2, Jedi Master Sol ( Lee Jung-jae) reports to Vernestra Rwoh (Rebecca Henderson) and other Masters at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant in the fourth episode. The gathering Jedi are rightfully concerned about his concerns that she was probably taught by a splinter order or renegade Jedi, something which calls for reasonable caution. One of the gathered Jedi Masters in this image looks to be none other than a younger Ki-Adi-Mundi, a future Jedi Council member as depicted in the prequel trilogy and animated series.
Though cameos are not unusual for Star Wars projects, Ki-Adi-Mundi was most certainly the last Jedi I would have seen in The Acolyte. Though nameless, Mundi's Cerean species has a somewhat difficult distinctive conical skull. Given low birth rates as recorded in Legends, combined with the rarity of their species, it seems reasonable to infer that he is really a young Ki-Adi-Mundi (and yet I'm still perplexed by his inclusion in The Acolyte to start with).
Will The Acolyte clarify why he thought the Sith extinct?
One of Ki-Adi-Mundi's most well-known phrases from The Phantom Menace is the primary reason I didn't expect to see him in The Acoleyte. Mundi says the Sith had been extinct for more than a millennium during Qui-Gon's account on confronting Darth Maul on Tatooine. Many Star Wars enthusiasts specifically mentioned this remark, wondering how Ki-Adi-Mundi could believe the Sith were no more since so many Jedi are shown battling what looks to be a Sith Lord barely 100 years previously.
Consequently, I would not have expected Ki-Adi-Mundi's entrance in The Acolyte episode 4 showing concern regarding splinter orders. This hopefully suggests that rather than completely skirting this puzzling story hole, The Acolyte will be addressing it. To preserve the dark side user's anonymity, it might also imply sinister futures ahead for every Jedi shown confronting this new Sith at the end of this new episode.
Ki-Adi-Mundi's Appearance in The Acolyte: An Interpretive View on a Prequel Character
