Where did Daniela and Charlie discover the original Jason 1 in Dark Matter Episode 8's ending?
After one of the Jasons tells Daniela what is happening in their world, Daniela and Charlie manage to flee Jason2 at the end of Dark Matter Episode 8. To their astonishment, though, they find themselves in another parallel Jason's automobile, told by him he has not seen her since the night Jason2 abducted him. Realizing this, Daniela begs Jason to stop at the police station—the Jason she spoke with there is not this one. But before he can, another Jason slams into their car with his car asking Daniela to go with him.
Jason had requested Daniela to come up with a safe word so she could make sure she was with the correct variation after she had pulled him from the police station earlier in the episode. Daniela choose a safe word: "Jupiter." In the last scene of Dark Matter Episode 8, Daniela and Charlie meet a version of Jason who accurately says the safe word, therefore confirming that he is the Jason Daniela Daniela had visited at the police station. Daniela is still dubious, though, about whether they are with the OG Jason or some alternative version of him.
How Many Jasons Found Their Way in the Same Earth?
Dark Matter's presentation of parallel worlds suggests that every significant decision Jason1 takes generates a new variant of him. Jason 1 and Jason 2, for example, were the same guy until Jason 1 chose to give his profession up to be with Charlie and Daniela. Jason 1's choice to remain with his wife set an other timeline whereby he did not make the same choice. The chronology in which he chose the "road not taken" produced Jason2 as an other version of him. Likewise, every decision Jason1 made inside The Box produced several parallel versions of himself after he was kidnapped.
Jason1 most certainly produced several different versions of himself since he had made many difficult decisions in search of Daniela and back-off to his universe. His other incarnations also made their own choices, which produced additional copies. Although the precise count of other Jasons is unclear, there are most likely millions—if not more—of them hiding in Parallel Worlds someplace. Some most certainly died inside The Box on their way back to their own world. A few hundred of them, like the original Jason1, made it back-off simultaneously. All of them were formerly the OG Jason1 before Jason2 uprooted his life, hence their shared objective is kill Jason2 and bring them back together with their family. Though all of them now want Daniela and Charlie to live with them, who really deserves to have them back? Given how they are all technically Jason1, it also begs the issue of whether Daniela and Charlie will experience any different being with either.
How would Jason 1 shield Daniela and Charlie from so many other Jasons?
Daniela and Charlie can't be sure whether he is the OG Jason even if they finally encounter the "Jupiter" Jason towards the finale of Dark Matter episode 8. Does it really matter who they finally wind up with given how almost all the returning Jasons were originally Jason 1? Assuming "Jupiter" Jason is the one they will choose to stay with, the three could just fly to another world via The Box and then block its entrance before the other Jasons could catch up.
It is difficult not to trust any character's identity, though, following the Ending of episode eight. How can the original Jason1 be so convinced he is in the correct world because other similar parallel universes likewise have several iterations of Daniela and Charlie? This makes it seem like the perfect way to solve the Jason overpopulation issue: persuade every Jason to return inside The Box and enter a parallel universe akin to the original Jason1 universe. Every Jason would thus wind up with a similar version of Daniela and Charlie without upsetting another Jason's world.
Episode 8 ending of Dark Matter: explained here Is That Really Jason 1?
Beginning where the last episode ends, Dark Matter episode 8 unravels one of the most perplexing but exciting narrative arcs on Apple Tv+ Sci-fi. The finale of After Dark Matter episode 7 just suggests that there might be more than two versions of Jason in the OG universe; episode 8 validates this conjecture by traversing the odd paths the Jasons come across. While some of these Jasons have severe injuries and show all the difficulties they overcome to return to their own realm, others get ahead of the curve by making intelligent judgments.
The Apple TV+ Sci-Fi show deftly frustrates viewers by including so many iterations of the same character into one universe, leaving them wondering which Jason 1's path they were following all this while. This then piques one's interest on how the show would conclude so many fantastical narrative turns in one episode. Luckily, episode 8 gives viewers enough opportunity to conjecture about what might happen next even though Dark Matter's finale might not be able to offer all the solutions.
What ending for the eighth Dark Matter episode means for the Finale for Season 1?
Given how Ryan 1 and Amanda might also return to the OG reality in Dark Matter's season 1 finale following the episode 7 setup, the Ending will be quite chaotic with numerous alternate versions of different characters lurking in the same universe. Many characters will probably find themselves going back to The Box to locate a reality where they may at last be alone as so many varieties of the same character cannot coexist in the same world. Apple TV+ Dark Matter still has many more mind-bending stories to tell and problems to solve, hence the finale will probably set the path for season 2 with another cliffhanger.
Apple TV+ will premiere the first Dark Matter season finale on June 26, 2024. Created for Apple TV+ by Blake Crouch, Dark Matter is a Sci-Fi drama-thriller based on his same-named novel. The show centers on a physicist kidnapped and transported into an other dimension where he sees one possible route his life might have taken. But he discovers that this other version of himself puts his family's life under risk.
