In the Lord of the Rings universe, Elrond has a fascinating and protracted narrative. For him, though, The Rings Of Power is creating some strange behavior. Arwen's dad, the Lord of Rivendell, you know him He's starting toward that in The Rings of Power season 2. Naturally, some things have to happen first. There will be building of Rivendell following the Siege of Eregion. And Arwen's birth calls for Elrond to get married. Rings of Power does, however, somewhat oddize things here.
Galadriel's daughter Elrond's wife Celebríán She apparently hasn't been born yet in The Rings of Power though. Given they will be in-laws, it is rather odd that Elrond and Galadriel showed such chemistry in the first season. Early on in the show, they had a reunion filled with much affection and even Elrond getting his cheek touched, which made viewers on the internet question what was going on between them.
Of course, affection is not unusual in Tolkien's writings. Friends show love by words and physical touch quite a bit. Rings of Power lacks really shown that with other characters except Elrond and Galadriel. Without that, they seem to have a history—that of at least unexplored emotions. That will make Elrond's final love with Galadriel's daughter even more odd.
Elrond's public love for Galadriel in The Rings of Power season 1 marks only the start of the romantic weirdness. Elves live eternity, thus their relationships from our human standpoint seem a little strange. For them, big age variances are natural. Arwen and Aragorn introduce themselves in The Lord of the Rings looking the same age, thus it's easier to overlook with them. The awkward truth will be more difficult to overlook, though, if Celebrían is born in Rings of Power or hints of it later.
Another way Rings of Power's chronology twists complicate matters is Galadriel hasn't mentioned her daughter; Celebrían should already be born by the time of season 2 in the books. Perhaps she believes Celebrían, like Celeborn, is dead so her daughter might appear as a grown-up elf later in the show. That would make her developing feelings for Elrond somewhat less embarrassing, but still you have the chemistry between Galadriel and Elrond. It's difficult to conceive a relationship between them devoid of weirdness.
Season 2 is already preparing things for Elrond's narrative in the books, while season 1 offered him a plot not found in the books. Including his affair with Celebrían. Season 2 marks the Siege of Eregion, and Elrond will be directed to send an army to assist Eregion upon Sauron's attack. Unfortunately, he will arrive too late and find himself guiding survivors to a safe location, which would finally become Rivendell.
The Rings of Power seems to have things not happening exactly that way. But Elrond has to meet Celebrían at some point since Arwen, his daughter, is so vital in The Lord Of The Rings. Elrond first encounters his future wife when Galadriel and her daughter visit Rivendell later in the Second Age. Whether this will occur in a next season of The Rings of Power or whether it will merely be hinted at once the show ends is unknown. Either way, the changes in Rings of Power have made managing this story more difficult than it ought to have been.
