Dead City Season 2 must correct the disorderly timeline of Walking Dead.
Though zombies abound in The Walking Dead universe, the largest monster might be its own timeline. Even the most committed fans would find this messy confusing. And Dead City season 2 could help to tidy this mess.
Rick's Comeback Found a Major Plot Hole
Rick Grimes's trip back to Alexandria in The Ones Who Live presented a dilemma. This show obviously occurs prior to Dead City. After the conclusion of The Walking Dead season 11, Rick and Michonne are back in Alexandria rather soon. Maggie and Negan, however, don't seem to have noticed Rick's comeback in Dead City whatsoever. The narrative suffers much from this!
That Maggie would not even bring up Rick is odd. He is, after all, a seasoned soldier with the CRM who might have saved Hershel from the Croat. Maggie's scheme to trade Negan to the Croat for Hershel seems far riskier than asking Rick for assistance.
The Fix Dead City Can Provide
Rick's early on brief mention fixes this problem in Dead City season 2. Perhaps Maggie says that, following all he went through with the CRM, she couldn't ask Rick to risk his life for hers. Maggie might also point out that not much has changed since the Commonwealth turned ally.
This goes beyond simply covering Rick's absence, though. It is about resolving the whole chronological problem. Compared to the other shows, Dead City occurs far in the future, which generates more and more issues as the franchise grows. A little time jump would help the entire chronology to run more smoothly.
Why Dead City is able to get away with it?
A retcon could cause some fans to question the narrative. Dead City boasts a few advantages, though. For instance, Negan's chronology is a bit hazy, which makes it simpler for the show to modify without fundamentally altering events.
Furthermore, the whole franchise would benefit much from a revised chronology. Planning for next shows and crossovers would be much simpler this way. It would also stop any shows from overlapping each other. For instance, no other show can really touch Oceanside since Dead City proved they still exist.
The Value of a Timeline Fix
Ultimately, a better timeline would make The Walking Dead universe far more fun. It makes everything feel lot better, much as when one cleans a messy room. A simplified schedule enables the stories to flow more naturally and gives the world more cohesiveness.
