Carol's Unseen Sides: Melissa McBride Teases 'The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon' Season 2

Melissa McBride hints on unseen sides of Carol in "The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon" Season 2.

Actress Melissa McBride, who plays Carol Peletier in "The Walking Dead" series, has offered analysis on Carol's part in the forthcoming second season of "The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon." Under the title "The Book of Carol," this season explores her search for her missing friend, following events from season 1 whereby she was last seen traveling to Maine.

Examining Carol's Healing and Unspoken Past

McBride said that "The Book of Carol" will look at a side to the character that has never been explored before, including ideas she wanted to have included into the first "The Walking Dead" series. She said that the season will center Carol's healing journey from the trauma of her past, so highlighting how it has molded her into a strong survivor. McBride underlined the need of tackling "unspoken things," the unspoken effects of loss and adversity that have affected Carol's life but were not fully investigated in past seasons.

"We're doing some things I wanted to do in the original series, without delving too far into specifics. Handle affairs, deal with the effects of loss and other such matters. Things that just—unspoken things nobody had conversations about, and how everything they have gone through really affects them," McBride said in an interview with TheWrap.

From Survivor to Warrior Carol's Evolution

McBride clarified that Carol's character arc will show a major development in this season. She is shown as embracing her warrior and survivor instincts after healing from most of the suffering she went through in the past. This season will present her fresh difficulties and compel her to face the events that have molded her.

"She is healed from a lot of that now, which feels different. And she has truly harnessed her, I suppose warrior self, survivor self, and is now adjusting to a variety of events and processing past events. I'm rather proud of this character since it feels like a natural development. Looking forward what is next excites me greatly," McBride said.

Carol's Past: How It Affects Her Future

From a meek, dependent mother to a fiercely autonomous survivor, Carol's character has always been multifarious and complicated. By the end of "The Walking Dead," she embraced her past and grew from it while she struggled with guilt over her past deeds in following seasons. In "The Book of Carol," as she meets fresh people and experiences on her path, this trajectory is most likely to continue.

Examining Carol's Relationship with Daryl and Approaching Past Trauma

One important turning point in Carol's path will be her reunion with Daryl Dixon, a relationship probably going to be tested. The most recent "The Book of Carol" teaser suggested that Daryl and Carol would get back together, so requiring Daryl to make a tough decision. Deeply bonded to Daryl, Carol might put his safety and well-being first—perhaps even giving saving his new house in France top priority before returning him to the United States top priority.

Apart from her relationship with Daryl, Carol's path will probably be one of facing her past trauma, which has molded her into a survivor but also brought great suffering. The people she meets on her travels could provide fresh viewpoints on her attitude and more thorough understanding of her driving forces. Though the particular traits of Carol's character that will be discussed in "The Book of Carol" are yet unknown, they most certainly help to clarify her will to save Daryl and return him home.
