How Shorter Run Derailed Season 7's Show 9-1-1
Since its 2018 launch, 9-1-1 has plotted the highs and lows of the 118; yet, a shortened Season 7 episode order has presented a major obstacle for the firefighters drama. Season 7 of 9-1-1 was among numerous broadcast shows impacted by the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. ABC responded by ordering 10 episodes, less than the usual 18 episode run for the show. Given the circumstances, a lower episode count made reasonable; nonetheless, it had significant effects on the major plotlines of the season, including how the show set up 9-1-1 season 8.
Though the season as a whole had problems, the ending of season 7 could have had be considerably more intriguing overall. With so many series regular cast members in 9-1-1, it is always difficult to get each character the screentime they are due. The show dedicated its first three episodes on a cruise ship accident rather than reducing things back-off. Regarding emphasis, the choices had a domino effect on the rest of the season, demonstrating why the reduced season was never going to be completely fulfilling for a number of reasons.
Buck Was Sideline in the Final Episodes of 9-1-1 Season 7
Buck has been important in some of 9-1-1's best episodes and stories; his presence in the second half of season 7 should have been more noticeable. Though Buck exploring his sexuality with Tommy came out of the left field, the show had the chance to grow their connection in the season's last episodes.
The shorter episode schedule made it seem as though the authors failed to pay off the earlier in the season stories. Buck thus moves from one of the most significant characters to a story device meant to support Eddie in season 7, episode 10. Buck helping his closest friend is not out of character, but it would have been lot more fulfilling had Buck been juggling his business and personal life concurrently. Buck's arc is ultimately one of the several that was sacrificed in favor of pre-9-1-1 season 8 canvas cleaning.
Many 9-1-1 Season 7 Stories Were Rushed
Contractual responsibilities are a sequence of recurring events with performers assured of episodes every season. This most certainly explains the jagged character of the several storylines. Characters, including Buck with Eddie, felt at times pushed into other character narratives. Though they are close friends, the writers battled to come up with imaginative means of having them cross paths. The show's attempt to make Eddie self-sabotage within a short amount of time caused his plot arc to crumble rather fast.
Eddie's emotional affair with Kim, for instance, should have lasted more than a few episodes as their complex relationship offered plenty of narrative for me. Christopher and Marisol knowing the truth would have been a considerably stronger cliffhanger than Eddie left alone in Los Angeles; it didn't have to finish in 9-1-1 season 7. Then the wedding of Maddie and Chimney came around. Given their two great personalities, their big day deserved a memorable episode. It was a disappointing path to have them not walk down the aisle and get married with Chimney in the hospital.
Few crises occurred that excluded the 9-1-1 Characters
Long emphasizing the people summoned to crises, 9-1-1 has Usually, these deviations from the main narratives are fascinating since they allow the protagonists time to assess what's happening in their personal life while attending to medical needs for others. Sadly, on 9-1-1 season 7, the crises involving the major characters in danger were little and far between, therefore altering the tone of the show. They were understandably reduced to allow more time for the arcs the writers believed necessary in a shortened chronology.
It does not benefit 9-1-1 to toss in conflict unrelated to the narratives. Nine-1-1 should be smart going forward to concentrate on the natural narratives rather than the gimmicks like a three-episode cruise ship accident and a crossover with The Bachelor. Letting the characters drive the story will help to keep the show interesting and new. Not 9-1-1 does when throwing in conflict that doesn't fit the narratives. With the show needing a significant change to guarantee its continuation, hopefully these problems will be fixed for 9-1-1 season 8's storyline.
9-1-1 Season 7, Episode 10's Closing Create the ideal opportunity for a series regular movement to 9-1-1: Lone Star on a permanent basis.
The last episode of the show had Buck proposing to Eddie to go to Austin in order to assist him in raising Christopher. Eddie agreed, but there are several narrative ramifications about their relationship's ongoing dynamics. Given Buck did not return to Austin after Eddie moved, the conclusion made plausible. But the ending produced a cliffhanger that, for the show to continue, had to be investigated.
The ending of season 7, episode 10 created the ideal chance for a series regular to migrate to 9-1-1: Lone Star permanently. Buck could be included in the Lone Star world as Eddie has been relocated to Austin for the next season, therefore augmenting the series. Future seasons should look at the ready-made tale.

History of 9-1-1
With "9-1-1," Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear rethink the procedural drama. The show looks at the high-stress events that first responders—including police, firefighters, and dispatchers—are thrown into—that are most terrifying, stunning, and heart-stopping. These emergency responders have to try to strike a balance between addressing issues in their own life and rescuing others most in need. The show focuses on real-life, high-stress events of first responders who routinely encounter heart-stopping circumstances that are often erratic, strong and inspirational at the same time.
