Author of "For All Mankind," Ronald D. Moore, has offered a peeks into the future spinoff series "Star City," including ideas on the narrative and possible time leaps. "Star City" will change the narrative focus to the Soviet viewpoint of the space race even while it will stay inside the same alternate history framework set by its parent series.
Moore underlined the show's boldness and the difficult conditions cosmonauts encountered as well as its dedication to investigating the less-known aspects of the Soviet space program. "It was pretty ballsy stuff that they did," he said, referencing the less dependable spacecraft and the KGB's presence in mission control, so adding a layer of espionage and Cold War tension to the story. The program will explore its complexity and present an original viewpoint on the space race.
Moore confirmed that although they will vary from the main show's framework, "Star City" will have time jumps. He clarified that these leaps would probably be smaller, concentrated on a particular decade period, and they wouldn't always line up with season finales. This adaptability lets one show the developments of the Soviet space program in more subtle ways.
Although "Star City" will be inspired by its parent series, Moore proposed a different narrative structure, straying from the consistent use of big time jumps at the end of every season. Instead, the show will use shorter leaps all through the season to produce a different narrative flow and speed. This method also allows one to investigate important events without saving them just for season ends.
Though "Star City" is meant to stand on its own, Moore noted the possibility for crossovers including characters from "For All Mankind." By filling in holes in the chronology of the original series, this could offer more understanding of the entwining histories of both programs. But the show's focus on autonomy emphasizes the value of its own narrative and narrative techniques.
Offering a window into the Soviet Union's contributions and the reality of their space program, the spinoff promises a fresh view on the space race. "Star City" will surely enlarge the "For All mankind" universe by stressing a different culture, political environment, and technological developments, so adding new characters and investigating less-known sides of the space race.
