James Gunn Discusses Report on Teen Titans Movie Will Filmed by DCU This Year
By tackling a recent DC Universe filming rumor, co-CEO of DC Studios James Gunn has at last broken his silence on the Teen Titans feature.
Early on and among the major shocks emerging from DC Studios is the live-action Teen Titans film. This will be the first time the Teen Titans are shown on live action film, based on the venerable DC Comics team.
When will the Teen Titans Movie release actually happen?
Given that casting for Teen Titans hasn't yet begun, it raises the issue of where DC Studios is looking toward the release date. According to Gunn and Peter Safran, they will not rush a movie into theaters until the script is 100% ready before beginning main filming. There haven't been any updates on the development thus far while the Teen Titans script is still under work.
Should all go as planned, Teen Titans entering theaters sometime in 2026 would make logical given everything. Given how the movie is looking to start filming this fall, Ana Nogueira, the screenwriter for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, is creating the Teen Titans script and may find great success working with DC Studios knowing what they look for in their films. Assuming a director is recruited for Teen Titans before the end of 2024, the casting might take place early 2025 and lead into filming to match a possible 2026 release date.
The Future of the Teen Titans
The rich personalities in the Teen Titans lore will make it interesting to observe the line-up in this particular version. Time will see who ends up joining the squad as Teen Titans take place in a DC Universe where superheroes are already established. Hopefully, Gunn will provide more updates about Teen Titans earlier rather than later.
Among the most well-known DC heroes—Nightwing, Starfire, Cyborg, Raven, and Beast Boy—some of them might significantly affect the DC universe. Their power settings and narratives will surely draw viewers and make this one among the most awaited DC films.

James Gunn Comments on the Teen Titans Movie.
The DC Studios co-CEO was asked on Threads if there was any validity to claims that Teen Titans would start filming in late 2024 (as featured in a Film & Television Industry Alliance document), while Gunn's Superman movie is still under filming. Gunn answered quickly, disproving the notion that filming Teen Titans would begin in 2024.
Since the first rumor, this is the first Gunn has spoken about anything pertaining to the Teen Titans movie. Teen Titans does not have a director attached at the time of this story's publishing, which is a major factor explaining why the film does not be filming this year.
