NCIS: Origins – Gibbs' Dark Past: revenge and Redemption in the Making!

NCIS: Origins Showrunner Teases Gibbs' Bloody Revenge

Hold onto your hats, NCIS fans! Gina Lucita Monreal, co-showrunner of NCIS: Origins, just confirmed what we all secretly wanted to know about that legendary character Leroy Jethro Gibbs (narrated by Mark Harmon and played in younger form by Austin Stowell), the prequel exploring the earlier years. This upcoming show tackles his brutal revenge against Pedro Hernandez. This thing has only aired three episodes – and its already teasing a major plot moment!    For fans wanting to see just how Gibbs changed and becomes this incredible badass, this is a great surprise and really creates anticipation for the rest of that initial run.

NCIS: Origins starts in 1991, months after the murder of Gibbs' wife, Kelly, and daughter, Shannon, setting a hugely important scene that needs to be dealt with; especially regarding Gibbs’ journey and understanding those critical impacts in his development which made him who he was in later seasons, particularly relating to his decision regarding vengeance on their killer, Pedro Hernandez, a critical moment which would fundamentally redefine this particular character's behavior and decision-making processes.

The Pedro Hernandez storyline in the original NCIS ran across multiple seasons.  Gibbs' painful past—those personal tragedies he mostly kept hidden– remained that great mystery until finally getting a significant narrative element explored throughout the plotline, focusing exactly how Gibbs deals with his trauma which led to this exact revenge; even Ducky, that longtime friend and mentor, was kept in the dark for years!

NCIS: Origins is going to re-create this pivotal moment; however it is critically important that NCIS: Origins does more than just restate how those events in the original series occurred!  This is a chance for even greater insights into those things! The impact on both Gibbs and Mike Franks, these are really crucial and will bring another perspective to that original NCIS storyline, and will highlight other important, profound decisions within this series itself, leading to more creative ideas, showing the impact on a larger and wider scale which greatly affects those moments previously discussed and presented only as summarized plot points.

Even Gibbs' father, Jackson Gibbs, already senses what’s up. This new episode 3 in this prequel shows that father-son relationship already highlighted that inherent and fundamental conflict surrounding this entire issue.

How NCIS: Origins Should Tackle This Pivotal Point in Gibbs' Life

Monreal's comments suggest NCIS: Origins is planned to properly unpack Hernandez’s death and provide greater depth. This is amazing news, as we already got some hints in the main NCIS show but lacked sufficient details of that encounter; yet those events still carry some seriously emotional weight, resulting in a generally darker narrative that NCIS: Origins should deliver!

This entire approach will greatly reshape how viewers see the character Gibbs; that morally-upright figure gets a deeper and very powerful exploration of his own darker instincts. His devastating losses; his grief that led to terrible actions; humanizing him way further! It makes this entire scene and those plot aspects more acceptable because it further showcases his struggles after loss. He was fundamentally damaged by loss.

NCIS: Origins shows how this storyline carries some great potential to change perceptions of Gibbs. That famous legendary figure has a chance to have far more depth, which is done simply through humanizing this man who was profoundly altered by immense tragedy, allowing fans to not merely know but actually truly understand him far better! This dark element; those moments that reflect deeply flawed decision making after loss and pain, brings more intrigue to this series.
