NCIS: Origins Casts Ducky & Abby Replacements For Gibbs' Prequel Team
The predecessor Ncis: Origins casts its Abby and Ducky replacements for Leroy Jethro Gibbs and Mike Franks' prequel team. CBS is once more extending its top-rated procedural franchise following the divisive cancellation of NCIS: Hawai'i. But this time it's a prequel story with Mark Harmon's Leroy Jethro Gibbs as the starting point. NCIS: Origins has young Gibbs recast with Austin Stowell, who will be the character in the "90s," under Mike Franks' (Kyle Schmid) tutelage during his first decade in the agency. Apart from the pair and Vera Strickland from Diany Rodriguez, the rest of the team consist of fresh characters.
Casting News: Introducing Woody Browne and Dr. Lenora Friedman
According to a new Variety article, Ncis: Origins features Bobby Moynihan and Lori Petty's version of Pauley Perrette's Abby Sciuto and David McCallum's Ducky Mallard respectively. Moynihan will play Woodrow "Woody" Browne, "the wildly overworked senior chemist and director of the NIS Forensic Lab, who uses an off-beat sense of humor to offset his lack of sleep." Petty will star as "a seasoned pathologist at the San Diego Medical Examiner's Office."
How Friedman & Wood In NCIS: Origins shapes Gibbs' MCRT Original Team?
Seeing Gibbs interact with people who remind Abby and Ducky can help one understand the sentimental reason he finally grows close to the characters of Perrette and McCallum.
Knowing Abby and Ducky's part in NCIS
Original NCIS team included Ducky and Abby. Actually, their participation in the Major Case Response Team (MCRT) predated the events of the flagship series since they were already members of Gibbs' squad during the JAG flagship backdoor pilot. Including Moynihan and Petty as Friedman and Browne helps to close the gap in what's theoretically NIS' version of MCRT. Apart from their contributions to the team, though, this is probably CBS's way of introducing fresh, but still recognizable, character types in the forthcoming NCIS prequel.
Investigating the New Characters On Gibbs' Team
Joining young Gibbs, Franks, Strickland, Friedman, and Browne in the NCIS: Origins core cast are fresh characters to the police procedural franchise: Mariel Molino's Lala, Tyla Abercrumbie's Mary Jo, and Caleb Martin Foote's Randy. Gibbs's time at Camp Pendleton shapes his distinctive but successful main NCIS show leadership style. His stay under Franks will be crucial for a newly discharged Marine in terms of future. Thus, seeing Gibbs interact with people who remind Abby and Ducky can help one to understand the emotional reason behind his ultimate close relationship with Perrette and McCallum's characters.
From JAG to NCIS, Gibbs' Team's Evolution
Leroy Jethro Gibbs's squad looked different on his JAG debut, before leading the first MCRT team in NCIS. Why was it modified?
Apart from creating NCIS: Origins, Mark Harmon will be the prequel narrator. Although the project cannot create any crossovers, his voice-overs can confirm this concept and give it chances to show its link to the main show. In the end, even if NCIS: Origins is mostly about Gibbs, its ensemble will be absolutely crucial in its success. Therefore, it's also fascinating to observe how Franks' team will run in relation to his mentee's MCRT team.

NCIS: Deep Dive into Gibbs' Origins
