Warning: Spoilers for My Hero Academia, Chapter #428
My Hero Academia just introduced a fresh batch of first-year students at UA in chapter 428, and this crew has a special something in common: a deep respect for the students who came before them and fought in the final war. This respect and admiration set the new class apart and shows how the world of heroes is getting better.
Chapter 428 starts with the new students messing with Bakugo and Todoroki, much to Iida's annoyance. The new students make it clear that many of them were inspired to apply to UA by the actions of Class 1-A (now 2-A). They're basically fangirling over their heroes just like Class 1-A once did for All Might. Even though Bakugo, Todoroki, and the rest of Class 2-A are busy with recovery work, it turns out that we're not done with these new first-years just yet.
While the Class 2-A students are cleaning up the city, the new students show up again, this time to apologize for their earlier behavior. While they're cleaning up, they're joined by the residents of the area, who admit that it's time they stepped up and helped. Working together with the citizens, Class 2-A gets busy cleaning up, but a bus full of first-years unexpectedly arrives. They're there to apologize for their earlier actions, but they realize that words aren't enough. They start helping with the clean-up efforts too. The whole group is able to work together smoothly, and as one civilian says, "One turn of good, hard work inspires the next."
This cycle of inspiration is what's needed to fix the problems that the villains exposed in hero society. Society was too dependent on a small number of heroes to do everything, and people weren't doing what they could to help. The citizens stepping up to clean up their own city is a great start, but these new first-year students really represent the hope for the future. They saw how hard Class 2-A worked, they know how tough it is, and they still chose to help out.
As if to prove they're here for more than just being a hero, the new first-years show up to help with the clean-up efforts – not exactly glamorous work, but they're willing to work hard. There's a big difference between how these first-years are approaching being heroes and how many of Class 1-A did when they were first-years. A lot of students were inspired to go to UA because of All Might, but it was almost like they wanted to be famous, everyone wanted to be the #1 hero.
The new first-years aren't worried about being on top; they just want to help, and that's a much better attitude. It's the first sign that things are changing in society, and that means great things for My Hero Academia's future.
