Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage set photo officially reveals the first look at Zoe Perry's return as Mary Cooper after Young Sheldon. CBS is keeping The Big Bang Theory universe alive with its second spinoff spearheaded by Montana Jordan and Emily Osment. Picking up a couple of months after the events of the Young Sheldon finale, Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage will shift its focus to the McAllisters, who will become the primary clan in Georgie and Mandy's new show. Despite that, some of Sheldon's family members are still set to appear, including their mother, Mary.
A new set image shared by Emily Osment on Instagram offers the first look at Perry's return as Mary in Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage.
The snap shows Osment and Montana Jordan all dressed up as the leading characters of Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage's story. Perry is also in her garb as the Cooper matriarch, as well as Annie Potts as Meemaw. The photo was taken during the show's closed-set filming, which took place a couple of days after their very first live show.
Why Mary Appears In Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage
Despite clamor for Young Sheldon to simply continue past Sheldon's move to California and George's death, which were both established in The Big Bang Theory, Chuck Lorre and his team chose to wrap up the prequel and kickstart a new one. Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage is technically a continuation of the beloved family comedy/drama, albeit with some changes, including its format. Instead of being a single-camera show, it has a multi-cam format, hence the live-studio taping that Perry didn't seem to attend.
At its core, however, Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage will continue to have ties to Young Sheldon because of Georgie's involvement. Mandy's McAllisters may now be the main secondary characters, but there's still a need to acknowledge the Coopers, especially Mary and Missy. Per The Big Bang Theory, Georgie took care of his mother and sister after Sheldon moved out of Texas and George unexpectedly died because his mother was too grief-stricken to function. The new series must show this, considering that it was the root of Georgie's deep grudge against Sheldon that lasted for years.
Besides Mary's narrative importance, there's still interest in knowing more about the Cooper matriarch. The Young Sheldon finale failed to give her a satisfying send-off, which Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage can remedy. On the flip side, the new sitcom can also benefit from featuring a well-beloved actor, especially since it's still trying to establish itself as CBS' next premier sitcom.
