Fire & Blood claims Addam and Alyn are bastard brothers from the little hamlet of Hull in Driftmark, the seat of House Of The Dragon's noble House Velaryon. Marilda, their mother, a Hull trader sometimes known as "Mouse," is the daughter of a shipwright. Though their silver hair gave door to plenty of conjecture about their parentage, Addam and Alyn's mother refused to identify the identity of their father growing up. Still, their parentage would not become known until the time Prince Jacaerys Velaryon dubbed Targaryen and Velaryon bastards to try to claim dragons in the Sowing of the Seeds.
Prince Jacerys Velaryon orders mainly Targaryen and Velaryon bastards to try to claim riderless dragons for Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen's side in the conflict. Among those adept at claiming dragons are Addam, Nettles, Hugh Hammer, and Ulf White. House Of The Dragon reflects rather distinct backstories for Addam and Alyn. Instead of working on their mother's cog, the brothers have been working with Lord Corlys Velaryon on his ships and apparently accompanying him in the wars in the Stepstones from House of the Dragon season 1. Additionally, given Alyn’s tense interaction with Corlys in the HBO show, it appears that a major change is being generated to the rumors about who truly fathered them.
Though the season 2 opener doesn't say exactly, it's rather evident that Corlys Velaryon is Addam and Alyn's father in House of the Dragon. Given they seem to be roughly the same age as Laenor, the notion Alyn and Addam may be his offspring is absurd. The stories regarding Laenor being their father received some additional legitimacy as Fire & Blood placed Addam and Alyn in the same age range as Rhaenyra Targaryen's daughters and son. In House of the Dragon, nevertheless, it would not be shocking if Alyn was indeed older than Laenor.
As in the book, it appears likely that Addam and Alyn's backstory—products of a long-standing affair Corlys had while repairing his ships and docking between his maritime exploits—will surface. Furthermore, as Fire & Blood sources suggested, Corlys most likely kept his relationship to Alyn and Addam a secret to prevent Rhaenys from finding out about his transgressions. Referring to the death of Prince Lucerys Velaryon, House of the Dragon is laying Alyn and Addam's destiny with House Velaryon before their ancestry is even established. Alyn remarks to Corlys on the tragedy of the death of his "heir."
Coming up in House of the Dragon season 2, Addam Of Hull perhaps has the most intriguing plot. As hinted at in the teasers for the episode, Addam will seize Laenor Velaryon's dragon Seasmoke. Although Addam does not have a direct Targaryen parent, he will come forward to claim Seasmoke now that Laenor left Essos under false death in Westeros revealed in House of the Dragon season 1. House of the Dragon's explanation of Addam's capacity to claim Seasmoke since Laenor is still alive and bonded with him is unknown, but rest assured Addam will be a great benefit for Rhaenyra's side in the fight.
Fire & Blood states that Lord Corlys asks for Addam and Alyn to be made legitimate Velaryons after joining Rhaenyra's armies as Seasmoke's rider. Since Jacaerys is already the heir to the Iron Throne and Joffrey the heir to Dragonstone, Rhaenyra follows Corlys's desires and Addam becomes Corlys Velaryon's successor to Driftmark given Lucerys's death. Alyn might be older than Addam in House of the Dragon, though, so the former might be named Corlys's heir instead. House of the Dragon's explanation of Addam's capacity to claim Seasmoke since Laenor is still alive and bonded with him is unknown, but rest assured Addam will be a great benefit for Rhaenyra's side in the fight. Riding Seasmoke into several of House of the Dragon's conflicts, Addam rides through the Battle of the Gullet, the Fall of King's Landing, and the Second Battle of Tumbleton. Addam tries to show his allegiance by flying to the Second Battle of Tumbleton and defeating the Greens after two other "dragonseeds," Targaryen or Velaryon bastards claiming dragons for Rhaenyra's Party, betray the Queen. Addam Velaryon dies in battle during the Dance of the Dragons, sadly as is the case with many of the war's characters.
Unlike his brother Alyn, Addam becomes a dragonrider in House of the Dragon. Though it's not known whether House of the Dragon will feature this occurrence for Alyn, in the book Alyn tries to claim the dragon Sheepstealer but is unsuccessful and disfigured by his fires. After Rhaenyra Targaryen dies, Alyn is left heir to Driftmark and assists Corlys in commanding House Velaryon's fleet, so returning Aegon II Targaryen back to King's Landing upon terms being negotiated.
Alyn sieges Dragonstone and recovers it from the dead King's troops, so returning it to the rule of the future King Aegon III Targaryen, Rhaenyra's eldest surviving son. Fire & Blood tells that Alyn marries Baela Targaryen shortly after Lord Corlys Velaryon dies of old age, therefore avoiding her unwanted political marriage to another. Alyn becomes Lord of the Tides. Following the birth of a daughter for Baela and Alyn "Oakenfist," the Driftmark king adopts his navigational and combat prowess and is dispatched to handle upheavals, conquests, and different missions for the crown. Although House of the Dragon's chronology does not line up with Alyn Velaryon's life, George R. R. Martin's Fire & Blood book shows that Alyn falls in love with Priness Elaena Targaryen (the daughter of King Aegon II Targaryen) despite being married to Baela. Two bastard children named Jon and Jeyne Waters—the former of which has their family name changed to Longwaters, still in use during Game of Thrones—Elena and Alyn have About 40 years after House of the Dragon's conflict, Alyn disappears at sea and is never recovered, so his future becomes a mystery.
The second season opener of House of the Dragon opens Alyn Of Hull with the sailor and brother Addam both playing significant roles in the approaching war and Westerosi history. As Lord Corlys Velaryon visits his ship in “A Son for a Son,” he encounters a man named Alyn whom he thanks for saving his life, as Corlys was at the brink of death in House of the Dragon season 1’s ending after fighting in the Stepstones. Alyn's subdued mention of his brother Addam sets some suspense for the season 2 debut, but the reality about Corlys's relationship with the brothers is yet unknown.
Many fresh people are being added to complicate the Targaryen, Velaryon, and Hightower dynasties as House of the Dragon season 2's episodes plunge more into the depths of battle between the Greens and Blacks. Two of the most important new characters in House of the Dragon season 2 are Alyn (Abubakar Salim) and Addam Of Hull (Clinton Liberty), whose roles will continue to grow in significance as the travesties of war take their toll. Although Alyn and Addam's representations in George R. R. Martin's Fire & Blood book will differ on HBO's show, their advancements and backstories are just as vital.
