The hidden cow Easter egg explained by twisters
Lee Isaac Chung's latest Twister film, "Twisters," pays a blink-and-you-miss-it homage to the original 1996 film even the director originally missed. The reference, a flying cow caught in a tornado, pays homage to the famous sequence in the original where a computer-generated imagery cow is seen floating across the air during a storm.
Chung revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter his discovery of the Easter egg hidden beneath visual effects reviews: "Towards the climax of the film, when an F5 tornado is on a collision course with the town of El Reno, Oklahoma, there's a blink-and-you-miss-it image of a cow caught up in the storm... sort of." This is the toughest thing to find. I only noticed it since I came upon some strange marking on a piece of flying garbage. Could you freeze that frame? I asked. When we were reviewing VFX, I was staring at frame-by- frame views and sure enough, there was a cow on that thing.
Considered legendary, the cow scene in the original "Twister" has come to represent the film. It even appears in the now closed Universal attraction "Twister... Ride It Out," where a flying cow shows during the simulated tornado encounter.
How Twisters Is Doing Against the Original 1996 Motion Picture
Chung stresses that he wanted "Twisters" to stand on its own, not as a rework of the original, despite the hidden cow reference. He aimed to emphasize a more realistic depiction of storm chasing rather than reproducing the over-the-top aspects of the 1996 movie.
Still, "Twisters" is proving to be a hit sequel with good reviews and drawing viewers. Though it is expected to be profitable, the movie has attracted a strong opening weekend box office. Strong performances by lead actors Daisy Edgar-jones and Glen Powell as well as the engaging plot and exciting action scenes help to explain the success.
Though "Twisters" follows its own route, it doesn't hold back when honoring the original movie. A homage to a beloved scene, the subdued Easter egg gives fans of the original "Twister a layer of nostalgia as well as a fresh view of the world of storm chasing.
The Cultural Icon Significance of the Flying Cow
The flying cow sequence in the original "Twister" goes beyond mere movie magic. Embedded in popular memory and cited in many contexts, it has evolved into a cultural symbol. Its inclusion in "Twisters" honors the legacy of the first movie and its ongoing influence on popular culture.
The cow scene is evidence of the ability of visual narrative to produce unforgettable images that linger with viewers long after the credits have rolled. It emphasizes the part comedy and absurdity play in action-packed Movies and how these components might improve the whole watching experience.
Apart from its humorous aspect, the flying cow scenario represents the erratic and turbulent character of storms. It stands for the strength of nature and its capacity to challenge even the most meticulously thought out designs. The cow starts to represent in a sense the difficulties experienced by storm chasers and their unrelenting quest of knowledge and insight.
Though it's a fleeting reference, the flying cow in "Twisters" tells volumes about the legacy of the original movie and how it changed the cultural scene. It reminds us that, outside of the screen, even the most famous events in Movies might become cultural icons that enter viewers' collective consciousness.
