Watching "Twisters," Tom Cruise was "Losing His Mind."
Co-star of Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick Anthony Ramos disclosed that Tom Cruise was "losing his mind" over the film and attended the Twisters premiere. A stand-alone follow-up to the 1996 disaster movie featuring Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt is Twisters. In the new film, a scientist teaming with storm chasers tests a novel tornado tracking system. Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea, and Sasha Lane round out the ensemble.
Ramos claimed in an interview with PEOPLE that Cruise was seated behind him at the premiere and had been repeatedly hitting him on the rear throughout the film. "He was laughing and simply delighted about various events. Ramos said, "He's just laughing loud the entire movie." He felt no shame in expressing himself. About that, I was rather appreciative. [After the movie] we hugged it out. He is like, "Yo, bro, good man, good stuff." So yell to Tom Cruise, man. It was absolutely fantastic.
Not Only One Loving Twisters Is Cruise
Though Cruise is a known enthusiast of action and disaster films, his view on new releases is rare. Known to be a huge admirer of Christopher Nolan's work, he even starred in Tenet. Cruise has also mentioned in public his delight of the viral Barbenheimer release, which Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning had to contend with.
Star of Twisters Glen Powell has also mentioned that Cruise greatly affected his performance in the film. According to Cruise, any story should have "the human instinct" captured if it is to appeal globally. This is, he thinks, what drives Top Gun: Maverick and Twisters to be successful.
Early reviews of Twisters are positive, thus it is expected to be a big summer box office hit. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film boasts a 79% approval rating from critics. This is much higher than the original Twister, which got a 63% rating.
More than the $41 million opening for the first movie, the sequel is expected to gross $45-50 million domestically on its opening weekend. Should it keep doing well, Twisters might even top the $495 million overall gross of the original movie.
