Movies News Talk
Hey, The Boys has grown way past a single season. This whole "superhero" saga has turned into a multi-part world with different spinoffs and, yeah, even a little "anime-style" movie in the mix! It's all interconnected in this bizarrely thrilling, yet surprisingly deep, universe. It can be kinda confusing trying to figure out what's happening when!
To simplify all this, let's talk about the time jumps and plotlines that really connect this whole show with all its spin-offs.
Okay, the original "The Boys" series kicks off with season 1 in 2019, and as far as the timeline is concerned, everything pretty much lines up with the actual years. We have a shareholders' meeting with Vought International, which gives us that confirmation - and yeah, that whole, "let's do the opposite of a typical superhero show" attitude sets in. It was a seriously wild, kinda shocking start.
With the whole world of Vought and the Supes revealed to the viewers, The Boys season 2 followed shortly after the first season, like an actual 2020 release date. It just so happens that a character named Transculent, the one who is completely invisible, actually kicked the bucket during season 1! But you have to watch Season 2 to know Vought only went public about the big secret, a year later, as if we were in some bizarre, alternate universe. And even though those first two seasons didn’t exactly have “The Boys” doing a huge time jump, it definitely sets up an amazing foundation to create an insanely engaging world, with characters getting "planted" into new storylines that we’re about to explore!
Here’s the whole backstory: The spin-off show "Vought Rising" will let us know what was going down when everyone thought superheroes were some sort of, “miracle.” It’s a super nostalgic view of a bygone era – those super-charged Supes hanging around like they're part of some historical epic! Vought is a super-cool bad company with a messed-up story, but “Vought Rising” will be more about the company in a really early, kinda more wholesome stage! Even though the show’s setting is the 1950s, this period of time was already briefly covered during the "The Boys", which will be revisited with new stories for Stormfront and Solider Boy. This is where the timeline gets kinda crazy - there will be lots of connections to characters in “The Boys", as they exist both in the past and the present.
Vought has made an entrance into a lot of timelines, so "Vought Rising" is just adding to the narrative and allowing audiences to get into how messed up these folks really are.
Okay, remember the scene with all the college-age Supes? That's "Gen V." It has a storyline inspired by a whole chunk of "The Boys" comic series, which tells a story about training for superpowers at a Vought School, as those "heroes in training" are ready to get those coveted jobs in a huge city.
That big twist happens at the end, when the world of "Gen V" merges back with the original “The Boys,” making those stories feel much more connected.
"Gen V", a spinoff that’s super exciting, takes place while the "The Boys" seasons 3 and 4 are running concurrently - kind of like they’re in the same universe, but each of them is busy getting their own plot rolling. Gen V, though a "standalone" story, has tons of little details and connections to the parent show.
But we don't want to miss out on those characters we’ve been watching! There's that major plotline in "Gen V," that involves this whole "supe" virus business! Well, you might recognize it. Those elements also kick off those plot threads for “The Boys” season 4 – showing us a totally intertwined universe with a more “messy” world.
We've been watching this whole thing happen! There's definitely a pattern: “The Boys” seasons 3 and 4 connect back to Gen V. It's almost as if they're creating those “spin-offs” just to have another part of “The Boys” happen a little bit later! This is all about blending those worlds, so that the main story of “The Boys” becomes richer!
Think of the "Gen V" characters and what they did. Well, the original “The Boys” characters are sprinkled throughout their universe. You get a super-connected narrative and a way to see how all those crazy things unfold in that "dark superhero" world.
We’ve still got the second season of Gen V coming out sometime next year and then season 5 of “The Boys”. So if you want the whole shebang, you better catch up and be ready for more surprises!
What we’re gonna get is super confusing – those stories weaving together with each other making it harder to know which timeline we’re in! We already have some teases! A certain duo of “Gen V” characters who have those powers (yeah, we know – no spoilers here!) and then "The Boys: Mexico".
What will "The Boys: Mexico" actually show us? It’s totally hush-hush. There's so much unknowing! Is "The Boys: Mexico" about events happening after season 5 of “The Boys”? We don’t know. Or is it set simultaneously with the other shows, like some kind of crazy “overlapping worlds”? There's even a possibility that some actors from "The Boys" will show up again - if they happen to still be around after the wild ride in "The Boys" finale! The future’s totally unknown right now.
What this new spinoff will cover depends a lot on the last episodes of "The Boys"! Get those speculations going, everyone. The “Boys” have created an epic universe for us to dig into, so I have no doubt that "The Boys: Mexico" will bring all the twists, action, and shocking scenes we all love.
