- Jumanji: You might be a fan of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson - but you have to remember the original film from 1995! It's actually an adaptation of Chris Van Allsburg’s amazing book - he’s actually known for another cool book, called “Zathura” - which they also turned into a movie! But for this one, it added those characters from the game - it really made it a fun adaptation.
- Matilda: If you saw the awesome Netflix musical you've got to know this one - it all started as a novel by the amazing Roald Dahl! They didn’t stay super loyal to the book! They switched it up a bit by moving the story to California! The movie was not a hit in theatres when it came out, but, over time, it became one of those movies we watched on repeat, when we were young! That’s a “classic 90s movies” experience!
- The Witches: You're in for a creepy time! A spooky movie with Anjelica Huston as the bad witch is based on one of Roald Dahl's more terrifying stories - so those movie adaptations always feel intense, but they also give you those good chills!
- Dr. Dolittle: Did you see the one with Eddie Murphy? Well, it was a “book to movie” thing! Those were actually a set of stories by Hugh Lofting, about this cool doc who could chat with animals! He originally wrote them to cheer up his kids when he was off in the war. That's awesome. That’s why, so many kids' movies have a great, heartfelt feel.
- Father Christmas: Get ready for the Christmas spirit! You probably know the awesome Snowman animation from the same artist. This animated film is adapted from Raymond Briggs - his illustrations were amazing! This film combined a few of his Christmas stories. The music for it is super-special, too.
- Mrs. Doubtfire: Robin Williams really knows how to bring the funny! It is inspired by Anne Fine’s book "Madame Doubtfire. She also writes for adults too, but this one was super famous!
- The Iron Giant: This is a classic movie that might just make you tear up. Based on The Iron Man, by Ted Hughes! It was more of a “children movies based on novels” adaptation, and they gave this robot a totally cool personality and awesome adventures.
- 101 Dalmatians: You know Disney, right? Well, that was actually based on a book by Dodie Smith about a big family of adorable dogs. That movie is a super fun, classic for Disney. You really should check out “Dodie Smith’s” original story - that book! They don’t make a lot of those, those kinds of movies anymore.
- Babe: Did you think it was real when you watched the pigs herding those sheep? This sweet movie is an adaptation from Dick King-Smith's “The Sheep-Pig.
- Stuart Little: What about a little mouse, who lives in a big human house? That one is based on E.B. White's story! This one takes some interesting turns in the film.
