July 2024 Movie Releases: Despicable Me 4, Maxxxine, Twisters & More

Despicable Me 4

Gru and his family are back with a new adventure in Despicable Me 4. Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) and Lucy (Kristen Wiig) are now parents to four kids: Margo, Edith, Agnes, and Gru Jr. When criminal Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell) escapes from prison, he and his girlfriend, Valentina (Sofia Vergara), seek revenge on Gru, forcing the latter and his family into relocation for their protection. With new identities and a new home, Gru and his family try to adapt to a “normal” life but are unable to escape conflict and adventure.

Despicable Me 4 is the fourth installment in the Despicable Me movie series and the siXth overall in the franchise.

Maxxxine

Maxxxine is a slasher movie written and directed by Ti West and a sequel to 2022’s X. Maxxxine brings back Mia Goth’s X character Maxine Minx, who, after surviving the massacre of the first movie, continues to pursue her dreams of becoming a famous actress. However, Maxine will not only have to prove her talent outside adult films, but she will also deal with the trauma of the Texas massacre, unresolved family trauma, and the Night Stalker himself in 1985 Los Angeles. Also starring in Maxxxine are Elizabeth Debicki, Halsey, Lily Collins, Kevin Bacon, Giancarlo Esposito, Michelle Monaghan, and Bobby Cannavale.

After surviving the massacre in the first movie, Maxine continues to pursue her dreams of becoming a famous actress.

Mother, Couch

Mother, Couch is a comedy-drama directed by Niclas Larsson and based on the 2020 Swedish novel Mamma i soffa by Jerjes Virdborg. Mother, Couch follows an elderly matriarch (Ellen Burstyn) who, while leaving a furniture store, suddenly sits on one of the couches and stays there. As she refuses to leave, her three estranged children – David (Ewan McGregor), Gruffud (Rhys Ifans), and Linda (Lara Flynn Boyle) – gather at the store to figure out how to escape from this increasingly bizarre predicament. Soon, the siblings find themselves on a mind-mending odyssey that forces them to face life-altering truths about their lives.

Longlegs

Longlegs is a horror thriller written and directed by Osgood Perkins. Set in the 1990s, Longlegs follows new FBI agent Lee Harker (Maika Monroe), who is assigned to an unsolved case involving a Satanic serial killer known as “Longlegs” (Nicolas Cage). The more Harker investigates, the more complicated it gets as more occult evidence is uncovered, and she soon realizes a personal link to the killer that prompts her to act fast to prevent another family murder. Also starring in Longlegs are Blair Underwood, Kiernan Shipka, Alicia Witt, and Jason Day.

Fly Me To The Moon

Fly Me To The Moon is a romantic comedy-drama film directed by Greg Berlanti. Fly Me To The Moon takes the audience back to the 1960s, during the Space Race between the United States and the Soviet Union. It chronicles the relationship between Cole Davis (Channing Tatum), the director in charge of the Apollo 11 launch, and Kelly Jones (Scarlett Johansson), the marketing specialist brought in to fix NASA’s public image and “sell” the moon… and stage a “back-up” fake Moon landing. Also starring in Fly Me To The Moon are Ray Romano, Woody Harrelson, Joe Chrest, and more.

As an Apple Studios production, Fly Me To The Moon will be available to stream on Apple TV+ at a still unknown date.

Twisters

Twisters is a disaster film directed by Lee Isaac Chung and a standalone sequel to the 1996 movie Twister. Twisters follows Kate Cooper (Daisy Edgar Jones), a former storm chaser who, as storm season intensifies, is lured back to the open plains after a devastating encounter years prior. However, she collides with social media superstar Tyler Owens (Glen Powell) when terrifying, never-before-seen phenomena are unleashed. The pair, along with their competing teams, soon find themselves fighting for their lives in the paths of multiple storm systems converging. Also starring in Twisters are Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea, Maura Tierney, David Corenswet, and Kiernan Shipka.

The Good Half

The Good Half is a comedy-drama film directed by Robert Schwartzman. It’s the story of Renn Wheeland (Nick Jonas), who returns home to Cleveland, Ohio, to attend his mother’s funeral. There, he forms new relationships, while he also heals old ones (mostly with his family), but he also has to confront his problems while facing his grief. Also starring in The Good Half are Alexandra Shipp, Brittany Snow, Matt Walsh, David Arquette, and Elisabeth Shue.

Deadpool & Wolverine

Deadpool & Wolverine is a superhero movie directed by Shawn Levy and part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A sequel to 2018’s Deadpool 2, and set six years later, Deadpool & Wolverine reunites the audience with Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds), now living a quiet life after leaving his time as Deadpool behind him… until the Time Variance Authority pulls him into a new mission as his home universe faces an existential threat. Deadpool is then forced to join Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) on a mission that will change the history of the MCU, though it's to be seen if for the better.

Deadpool & Wolverine is Deadpool’s long-awaited MCU debut after the Disney/Fox merger, and it retained the R rating of its first two Movies.
