Will Smith Hands Over The Franchise to Michael B. Jordan?
Hold up, everyone. Will Smith is making a comeback in a way you might not expect, because there's a new movie in the works, "I Am Legend 2" – a follow-up to that epic apocalyptic flick from 2007. And the wild part is, it seems like they're going to pick up with that alternate ending that was, let's say, kind of controversial when the first movie came out. Remember, that was when Will Smith, aka Robert Neville, was living alone with his canine friend, while a bunch of "dark ones" (those infected folks) were just hanging out. Yeah, not the classic ending!
It's unclear exactly what this sequel will look like but it is confirmed to be directed by a yet to be determined director, and Will will be joined by, hold on, get this... Michael B. We all know Will Smith is the master of blockbuster films. He's graced us with amazing roles from the Men In Black to the Bad Boys universe, but those were two-man crews. He's also starred in a ton of films, some with potential for franchises, like “Suicide Squad” and “Hancock," that never really took off. Maybe "I Am Legend 2" will actually change that. Could this be the time he lets go of a beloved character to see someone new take on a big part? If that happens, then it could be a real turning point in Will Smith's filmography! And can we say that Michael B. Jordan doesn’t know how to lead a franchise? Nope, it will be fantastic to see what this two-man duo comes up with!
Let’s rewind to 2008, when they were already talking about a prequel that was supposed to show exactly what went down before that virus made everything crazy. That ended up fizzling out in 2011! But with all that extra time, maybe they had a chance to re-imagine those "I Am Legend" stories from another angle. If "I Am Legend" ends up as a passing-of-the-torch moment for Will, I have to say – I'm so down!
The New "I Am Legend": What Will the Story Be?
One thing that really rubbed fans the wrong way about the original I Am Legend was that whole ending! Remember, Robert Neville was supposed to be the only surviving human, until the “dark ones” basically rescued him and took him to their community to offer a cure to those that remained infected. Fans loved that ending. In fact, they weren't really thrilled that he lived at all. The sequel seems to pick up from that alternate ending – the one where Will Smith's Robert Neville survived to become a hero.
Now we've got a big “What will the new I Am Legend” storyline be?" situation! This sequel could go a few different directions, especially since we're seeing the “I Am Legend” world expand with new characters and more of those “dark ones” coming to the front of the narrative. So, will we have another epic, post-apocalyptic world with those same creatures and dangers, maybe with some super special twist, or something new and scary? We can't wait to see what James Gunn’s done to “I Am Legend”.
What If It’s Time to Step Aside For Michael B. Jordan?
This is going to be interesting, and we're hoping it works out great, because there’s some history here to pay attention to! Think about the story – Robert Neville ended up sacrificing himself at the end of the first film. But he survived in the alternate ending. Will his fate change, paving the way for Michael B. Jordan's new character to take the reins of this massive Movie franchise.
Remember those earlier plans? We had the prequel that would have focused on the beginnings of this whole viral pandemic and Neville’s initial encounters as the apocalypse kicked in, but nothing materialized from it. Maybe they were already trying to lay the foundation for a longer arc for Neville, before all that talk about prequels turned into this passing-of-the-torch thing for the sequel! It would be really awesome to watch this dynamic unfold.
Looking Ahead: The New World of "I Am Legend 2"
We can't even imagine all the ways “I Am Legend 2” might turn out, and what roles will be given to the actors and actresses who come on board for the sequel. If this all works out right, Will's “I Am Legend” experience might have a longer lasting impact in a way we didn't anticipate.
Let’s just say fans of "I Am Legend” and Michael B. Jordan are in for a thrilling ride as the sequel's production gets going! This could be one of the big films of the next few years – who knows! With these two amazing actors in charge, “I Am Legend” might just become one of those franchises that lives forever, leaving us in a constant state of “what’s next!”
